Some tattoos carry more than ink — they carry people, memories, and the weight of what matters most.
This piece was built around the idea of family roots, with these swallows carrying two very meaningful rings through the quote “strong roots provide beautiful leaves.” The rings were especially important because they were recreated to stay true to the client’s original references — keeping the shape, stone setting, and fine ornamental detail recognizable so each one still felt personal and authentic rather than just a generic jewelry element.
The goal was to make them feel delicate enough to hang naturally, but detailed enough that you could still read every edge, bezel, and turquoise center.
Both birds were done almost entirely through a controlled 3RL process — meaning every feather split, facial contour, wing layer, and soft tonal transition had to be built slowly with single-pass precision. Using a 3 round liner for this style allows me to create those ultra-fine separations in the wings and keep the overall piece airy and elegant without over-bulking the tattoo. It’s a much slower method, but it gives me the ability to keep everything crisp, feminine, and highly detailed while still flowing with the arm.
The hanging strings and ring placement were also adjusted to create movement so the entire tattoo feels like it’s suspended in motion instead of sitting stiff on the skin.
Pieces like this are a reminder that the smallest details usually matter the most.
