Neuroinflammation plays a prominent role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Microglia are macrophages in the central nervous system that activate in response to brain injury and disease and are the primary cells involved in neuroinflammation. Altering microglia activation is a promising strategy for AD. A computer-simulated analysis of the constituents in jasmine (J. grandiflorum) essential oil revealed that alpha-Hexylcinnamaldehyde, nerolidol, hexahydrofarnesyl acetone, dodecanal, and decanal are key constituents that target pathways involved in neuroinflammation and microglial activation. The research suggests that jasmine essential oil may inhibit the overactivation of microglia and decrease both neuroinflammation and oxidative stress through multiple pathways to combat AD.
