Listening 3 times more than you're thinking
Please ask questions. Keep eye contact. Smile: Smile. Frown ...... frown. Nod. No. Answer not only verbally but also nonverbally. That is all it takes to convince the other person it is important to him or her.
Do not offer advice when you do speak unless you are asked. Listening shows that you care much more than offering advice, because in most cases, you make the conversation about yourself when you give advice.
Who, you or the other guy, is "Here's what I'd do" about? Talk only when you have to say something important, and always identify what matters to the other person and not to you.
