Do you cover your tea while it steeps? ☔🍵

Here's a little herbal trick worth trying. When you steep herbs, the steam carries their aromatic oils, the part you smell, right up and out of your cup. Pop a lid, a saucer, or a small plate over your mug while it steeps, and those oils drip back down into your tea instead of floating off into the room.

Then lift the lid, lean in, and breathe it in before your first sip. On a gray, drizzly day, that's half the magic.

Before there was a bottle, there was a seed, a pair of hands, and a whole lot of faith in the soil. 🌱

Today is National Farmer’s Day, and we’re tipping our hats to the people who show up for the land every single day.

For us, that starts with Jane and David. Jane began working with herbs 🌿 in 1982, after discovering that the remedies growing in her own garden helped her children. In 1987 that kitchen-garden wisdom became Four Elements. Their 130-acre farm in the Baraboo Bluffs has been certified organic since 1989, and every year they give back to the soil that gives so much to us.

They plant and harvest by the cycles of the moon. 🌙 They make remedies in small batches. And they still believe the best medicine starts with how you treat the Earth. 🌎

So to Jane, David, our field crew, and every farmer across Wisconsin and beyond: thank you. You feed us, you heal us, and you keep the old ways alive.

On the second to last day of 1997, Jane’s second child was born, Savanna, carrying on the tree themed names. One reason for her serious nature as a baby, Savanna was born with eczema all over her body. Jane couldn’t stand to see her baby suffer and naturally went searching in her herbal library and well respected herbalists for a solution. Thus was born the Look No X Ma soothing skin cream. Jane made this cream for her daughter using:

💛 Calendula and chamomile: traditionally valued for their gentle, calming properties on the skin.
💛 Comfrey: has a history of use in topical applications for promoting skin comfort.
💛 Licorice root: often included in herbal blends for its traditional soothing role. Jane learned that licorice has cortisone-like components, and Michael Tierra, a pioneer of contemporary herbalism, acknowledged this perfect use for licorice.
💛 Evening Primrose Oil: Essential fatty acids help to support healthy skin and gut function.

By the time Savanna was 2 years old, her skin had cleared. For over 25 years, the Look No X Ma cream was Four Elements’ best-selling product, (until the Wild Yam Cream took that position). Sometimes something great comes from something bad. Jane took a difficult situation and made a great product to help not only her daughter but countless others.
