Segal Trials, founded in 1999, is a privately held network of seven research sites throughout South Florida conducting Phase I-IV research trials with a primary emphasis on psychiatry, neurology, addiction, insomnia, general medicine, healthy volunteers, infectious diseases, vaccines, and women’s health. Supporting someone with schizophrenia isn’t always about finding the perfect thing to say. A thoughtful text can help to create a safe space that is free of judgement. 🤍

When schizophrenia symptoms are active, confrontational language, arguing about someone’s reality, overwhelming them with information, or dismissing what they are experiencing can make communication more difficult and make that person feel unsafe. Instead, try listening first, validating how they feel without reinforcing a delusion, and asking what kind of support they need.
