Culture Has Nothing to Do With Abuse
Too often, abuse is excused by saying, "That's just their culture," or "That's how they were raised." The truth is, culture does not cause abuse, and culture should never be used as an excuse for abuse.
Every culture has people who treat others with kindness, respect, and dignity. Abuse is a choice made by an individual, not a cultural tradition that should be accepted or tolerated.
Whether emotional, verbal, physical, financial, or psychological, abuse crosses all races, religions, nationalities, and backgrounds. No one deserves to be mistreated, controlled, intimidated, or harmed.
Respect is cultural. Kindness is cultural. Compassion is cultural. Abuse is not.
Let's stop making excuses and start holding people accountable for their actions while supporting those who are finding the courage to heal and move forward.
