Best Care The most trusted home care agency in Minnesota. I determined to make continuous improvement part of my life.

So how did an attorney who started his working life at Ford Motor Company find himself running a well respected non-medical home care agency 15 years later? The road I traveled from the Ford Motor Company to Best Home Care provided me with the training and experience I would need to assure our clients receive the finest care possible, delivered with the respect they have earned. That journey also

brought an understanding of benefits to seniors of staying in their home surrounded by their memories and familiar objects, and that people of all ages should have the opportunity to be active and independent in their communities. As a successful supervisor in the corporate world, I learned the importance of efficiency and quality and their impact on client satisfaction. As a union president, I learned there are times employees need someone to stand beside them and act as an advocate for their rights. My desire to be a campaigner for fair treatment led me to law school. As a practicing attorney I saw the consequences of home care agencies that do not put the wellbeing of clients before profit. I made a commitment to always remember that the measure of an agency’s success is client satisfaction and not the bottom line. In 2005 I had the opportunity to combine my passion for advocacy, business experience, and commitment to caring for others when my father, wife, and I launched Best Home Care. Since we have been in business we have kept true to our commitment to put service before profit and from our advocacy for others and commitment to excellence we have reaped the rewards of praise and loyalty from hundreds of families.

September is Healthy Aging Month. And we want to take this opportunity to remind you that one of the best ways for seniors to age is to age in place, right at home, surrounded by familiar comforts and community.

Family caregivers play a huge role in making that possible, providing daily support that helps loved ones stay independent longer.

At Best Care, we help family caregivers get trained, supported, and even paid for the care they already provide. Let's celebrate healthy aging, together!

Siblings Cody and Kaleigh Brendle, who are both in their 20s, grew up with the right to integration in their communities. Now they worry those protections for people with disabilities like them are being eroded.

Listen to this insightful piece from NPR, here:

The siblings, who both have disabilities, came of age knowing it is their right to live, learn and work in their community. Not long ago, millions of people like them could have been segregated in institutions. Then in 1999, in a case....

What Is Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease?

According to the CDC: "HFMD is a common illness that usually causes fever, mouth sores, and skin rash. It can spread quickly at schools and day care centers. Most people get better on their own in 7 to 10 days."

This viral infection spreads through close contact, respiratory droplets, and touching surfaces or objects that have been contaminated. HFM disease often starts with a fever, sore throat, and loss of appetite, followed by a red rash on the hands and feet. Mouth sores may also appear on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks.

For care recipients who are nonverbal or too young to describe their symptoms, caregivers are often the primary source of identifying and treating HFM disease.

Once a diagnosis has been confirmed by a healthcare provider, caregivers play a critical role in day-to-day monitoring. Keep a simple log of symptoms, including fever readings, hydration levels, appetite changes, and rash progression. This can help you track whether a child is improving or if it's time to call the doctor again.

Supportive care for hand, foot, and mouth disease often centers on comfort and consistency. This might include offering small, frequent sips of water or an electrolyte drink to prevent dehydration, keeping the environment cool and calm, and checking temperature regularly.

Family movie night just got a little more meaningful!

Netflix is debuting a new movie starring an actor with Down syndrome. It's exactly the kind of representation we deserve to see on screen. Watching characters who look like, think like, and live like our loved ones helps build empathy, confidence, and connection for the whole family.

One of the biggest worries for parents of children with disabilities: "What happens when I'm no longer here?"

A growing movement across the country is working to answer that question by creating neuroinclusive neighborhoods where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can own their own homes and live independently within a supportive community. What an important and inspiring step forward for inclusion!
