Wow, Oxford Hills families, you are raising some truly remarkable leaders!

HOH was inspired and impressed by the incredible work of students at Oxford Hills Middle School South Campus. These young people identified real challenges in their community and stepped up to create meaningful solutions. Their creativity, compassion, and determination were on full display as they researched issues, asked thoughtful questions, and collaborated with community partners to turn ideas into action.

Projects included:

• Creating a community awareness banner to address impaired driving

• Promoting youth mental health and substance use prevention through clubs and healthy alternative activities

• Organizing a toiletry drive to collect essential items for unhoused youth in the community

• Improving playground safety and advocating for updates to recreational spaces

• Cleaning up public parks and addressing litter in shared community spaces

• Developing new after-school clubs and activities to increase student connectedness

• Raising awareness about healthy social media use and screen time habits

• Addressing bullying and promoting respect for all students through education, awareness, and positive school culture initiatives

Their work highlights the real impact young people can have in shaping a better future for Oxford Hills. Thank you for inviting us to come see your projects and for the chance to be involved with this project.

Special thanks to: Alexys, Hyla
Lily, Rowan, Eliza, Alaric, Silas, Lee, Simon, Madison, Ellora, Parker and Kolby, Henry, Connor, Sawyer, Jackson and Michael for talking with us today and sharing your amazing ideas.

Substance use impacts millions of Americans and only a small percentage will get the help they need to get better. Why? Stigma is one of the biggest barriers. When we choose to see people as people, not as their disease, not as their addiction, we make it more likely that they will ask for and receive help.

✨ We Want Your Input! ✨

Healthy Oxford Hills is partnering with Maine Pilates to offer a 6-week MAT Pilates series for women ages 19–35 this July and August. The age range for this series is based on grant requirements, which is why participation is currently limited. Since this is our first time partnering with Maine Pilates, we're using this as a pilot program to gauge interest and determine how we can expand future offerings.

Before we finalize the schedule, we want to hear from you! Scan the QR code or click the link below and let us know which day and time works best.

💚 Pilates focused on strength, flexibility, and body awareness
💚 Healthy snacks provided
💚 Wellness and nutrition discussions after each class

Please share with friends who may be interested! If there is enough interest and the series is successful, we hope to offer additional classes in the future that are open to a broader age range. We'd be happy to add anyone interested in a potential fall series to our interest list.

Please email Emily at [email protected], and we'll be sure to keep you informed about future opportunities. In the meantime, we encourage you to check out Maine Pilates for other class options they are currently offering!
