Horses have the same gait patterns as humans, so the child on horseback is being moved in the same way as if he were naturally walking. The muscles and nerve connections activated to stay balanced on the horse are strengthened and coordinated repetitively. us activities in the out-of-doors stimulates the riders’ senses. By engaging the student entirely, a rider can make unprecedented improvements in motor and speech skills. Safety is a huge focus at our facility. Volunteers are trained extensively how to handle therapy horses and how to interact with our riders. Being a certified horse trainer, I have ensured that our therapy horses are specifically trained for therapy, learning to react appropriately to situations that commonly arise with and without disabled riders. While no horse will always behave perfectly, issues will be addressed and corrected, and riders will not be put on a horse that is not safe.
