Fine is a door closing with somebody still standing on the other side of it. It ends the conversation without ending the problem, and the person left outside gets to guess for the rest of the night. What it is protecting is usually real. Sometimes there is genuinely nothing coherent to say yet, and being pushed to produce a reason on demand makes it worse. The fix is not forcing the whole feeling out before it is ready. It is one true sentence about where you are, with a time attached. Not ready yet is honest, it costs nothing, and it gives the other person somewhere to put their attention. Fine is a wall with a friendly face, and everybody can tell. The hour matters more than the sentence. Anybody can wait when they know what they are waiting for.
