We free women (and the men who love them) from unbalanced hormones that can happen during peri-menopause and menopause. We liberate men (and the women who love them) from the symptoms of low testosterone. We help people to live happy lives instead of suffering with unmanaged symptoms. We are creating a movement to shift the focus of aging from crisis disease management to β€œwholistic” proactivity. Proactive health care that is natural, and takes into account the mind, body soul in order to empower growth, happiness, and fulfillment.

"I feel better" is real data.

So is "I feel worse." So is "I can't explain it, but I'm not myself."

There's a habit in healthcare of treating lab numbers as the facts and how you feel as the opinion.

Labs matter. They tell you what's in your blood.

They don't tell you what it's like to live in your body.

That's what symptom scales are for. Short questionnaires that score the same things the same way every time. Sleep. Mood. Hot flashes. Joint aches. Libido. Focus. Answered today, then again in a few months, so "better" stops being a vibe and becomes a trend line.

You can start your own version tonight.

Pick the four or five things bothering you most. Rate each one from 0 to 3 once a week. Same day, same rough time.

Six weeks of that tells a story no single appointment can.

And it means the next time someone says your labs look fine, you have something to put next to them.

Here's a strange Minnesota fact.

From roughly late fall to early spring, the sun sits so low in our sky that your skin can't make much vitamin D from it. Doesn't matter how long you stand in the driveway. The light is there. The useful part isn't.

So most of us head into winter running down a tank we can't refill the usual way.

Low vitamin D can look like a lot of things. Tired in a way coffee doesn't fix. Achy. A mood that sags around Thanksgiving and stays there.

And if you're in your forties or fifties, a lot of that overlaps with perimenopause and Low T.

Which is exactly why guessing doesn't work.

The plan is simple, and it isn't "take the biggest bottle." Vitamin D builds up in the body, so more isn't automatically better. Know your number first. It's one blood test.

Then you're treating what's actually there.

Three conversations worth having this month. None of them need a script.

Backward: ask your mother.
Not "did you have a hard time?" She may wave it off. Try: "What was it actually like? What do you wish someone had told you?" You'll get real information. And she may get something she never had: someone finally asking.

Sideways: tell your own people.
Your partner, your sister, your friends. "I'm in perimenopause, and here's what it's doing." Not an apology. Information. They can't support what they can't see.

Forward: talk to your kids.
No lecture. Just mention, in passing, that this is a normal chapter with a name. So that twenty years from now, nobody they love has to figure it out alone.

And a fourth, if what you've been carrying feels heavier than "just a phase": a conversation with someone who knows this territory and takes the whole pattern seriously.

Maybe you remember it in pieces.

Your mother at the freezer with the door open, a bag of peas pressed to the back of her neck.

The bedroom window cracked open in January.

A short temper that showed up out of nowhere and left the same way.

And if you asked, you got two words. "The change." Said in a tone that closed the subject for good.

For a lot of women, that was the whole education. Not a conversation. A phrase.

She wasn't being unkind. She was doing what her mother did, who was doing what her mother did.

But now it's your turn. And you're realizing you were handed almost nothing.

October is Menopause Awareness Month. We're going to spend it saying the things nobody said out loud.

Not any single symptom. The cluster, and the timing.

If several of these arrived in the same eighteen-month stretch, in your forties or fifties, alongside cycle changes β€” that pattern is worth a conversation. Especially if you've already taken pieces of it to different doctors and come away with a different partial explanation each time.

So write them down before you go. All of them, including the ones that feel too small or too strange to mention.

The itchy skin belongs on the list. So does the anxiety. So does the thing you've been calling "just being tired."

The list is often what makes the pattern visible β€” to you as much as to anyone else.

And if you've been told your labs are normal and your symptoms are stress: both things can be true. Your labs can be unremarkable and you can still not be okay.

You know your own baseline. If you've drifted from it, that's information.

Bring the whole list. Including the parts you were planning to leave out.

For decades, estrogen kept them thick, elastic, well-lubricated, and slightly acidic β€” that acidity is part of how the body keeps unfriendly bacteria in check.

There's a symptom of menopause that rarely makes the lists. It doesn't show up in the cheerful pamphlets next to "hot flashes" and "night sweats." Women don't bring it up at brunch. A lot of them don't even bring it up with their doctor.

This part matters as much as the rest.

Thyroid problems look like this. So do iron deficiency, sleep apnea, depression, and autoimmune problems. Joint pain has a long list of causes, and some of them need a rheumatologist rather than a hormone conversation.

A responsible evaluation rules those things out instead of assuming.

If someone tells you it's all hormones without looking, that isn't care. It's a shortcut β€” and it's the same dismissal you got before, just pointed in a different direction.

What you're looking for is someone who takes the whole pattern seriously and then actually investigates it.

That's the standard. It's also the reason the first appointment here is a conversation rather than a prescription.

Not worry about something. A physical anxiety that arrives on schedule with nothing attached to it.

Women describe waking at three in the morning with a pounding heart and a sense of dread, then lying there trying to find the thing they're dreading β€” and failing.

If that's familiar, it's worth knowing it's one of the most commonly described experiences in perimenopause, and one of the least often connected to hormones.

And here's the part that compounds.

Broken sleep makes brain fog worse. It makes anxiety worse, makes pain worse, makes mood worse.

So if you're carrying disrupted sleep and joint pain and word-finding trouble all at once, you aren't dealing with three problems.

You're dealing with one problem and three amplifiers.
