GLP-1 side effects aren’t always a sign that the medication “isn’t working.” Sometimes, they’re a sign your body needs more time before moving up.
Nausea, fatigue, low appetite, food aversions, constipation, or just feeling “off” can happen when dose increases move faster than your body can tolerate. Dose escalation exists for a reason: to help reduce GI side effects and give your body time to adjust.
✨ So what’s the best way to reassess your plan?
Start here:
1. Look at when your symptoms started.
➡️ Did they show up after your last dose increase? That’s important information.
2. Track what you’re actually able to eat and drink.
➡️ Protein, hydration, electrolytes, fiber, and overall intake matter (especially if nausea or appetite suppression is making you undereat.)
3. Don’t force the next increase.
➡️ More isn’t always better. The “right” dose is the one you can tolerate while still making progress.
4. Talk with your prescribing provider.
➡️ Ask whether it makes sense to stay at your current dose longer, adjust your titration schedule, or revisit supportive strategies before increasing again.
GLP-1 success isn’t about rushing the highest dose. It’s about finding the pace your body can actually sustain. If you’re feeling miserable on your current plan, don’t ignore it, reassess it.
✅ Save this for your next check-in with your provider.
