Daughter of Samoa

Daughter of Samoa I'm a birth and postpartum doula and Yoga teacher. I teach yoga all levels of Yoga asana, including prenatal and postpartum yoga, Yin.

Find out more about Leonora's yoga classes and birthwork along with special guest teachers and wisdom keepers coming through to share about pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum and how to support birthing people. I am also a continued student, practitioner and teacher of meditation, mantra, Yoga history and philosophy -- all rooted in Yoga as a soterological practice. I teach and co-own Barefoot

Movement, a Yoga studio located in West Oakland, Ca. As a birth and postpartum doula, I work to help each client envision and experience the kind of birth they deserve, helping to inform, prepare and support them throughout their pregnancy journey into empowerment as a parent.

This month, I begin my midwifery studies and for the next four years will be dedicating myself to the study and practice of midwifery with the Cedar Medicine School of Midwifery, a direct-entry, indigenous-founded and indigenous-led midwifery training program.

I must admit that I am full of gratitude to begin my training within a school whose philosophy of uplifting traditional ways of knowing, being and relating are in alignment with my own values and hopes for the birth work I intend to continue to provide in service to my community. As a future midwife, healer and changemaker, I hope to apply this wisdom in right relationship, reciprocity and responsibility to the craft and art of midwifery.

To help me make my dream of midwifery possible, I've created a GoFundMe to help raise funds to cover costs for my midwifery journey these next few years. If you are able to contribute financially, thank you. If you are able to share this fundraiser with your community, thank you.

And if you simply take a moment to learn about what I am working toward, that matters too. Thank you.

I will continue to share updates about how my midwifery journey is progressing both in these newsletters and hopefully also through my website blog. Thank you for supporting me!

BIPOC parents carry deep sources of strength and cultural wisdom that support them through life, even as they face challenging transitions such as becoming a parent. This group offers a supportive space to connect with others on a similar journey within the first year of parenthood.

Together, we’ll explore the full spectrum of emotions and experiences without judgment, urgency, or pressure to “do motherhood right,” recognizing that safety, choice, and empowerment are essential.
