At this moment, I accept our last goodbye 8 years ago today.
8 years without you has brought me opportunities to stay connected to family, being open now to ask men for help, being a motivated educator, holding up our family's standards, continuing to learn and explore life...
8 years, I've gained acceptance in your death, why you left, and that you're feeling better.
Life for you was difficult, but you didn't allow it to stop you from being so you needed to be.
Because of you, I am happy, safe, healing, learning, and growing.
But, dammit, I'm really missing you today💚💔

Acceptance in my grief establishes the worth I carry for myself, my ancestors, and my future kin. Right now, in this moment, I accept the circumstances that got me to 40 years old. I accept the worth I carry that is needed in this world, right now. The blood of my ancestors is pulsing through the veins... this is the first time the ancestors feel free... through me.

Acceptance frees me from my stories that spread lies. I hear many fears from others, not yet ready to face this journey. Acceptance shatters the fears placed on my journey. Here, in acceptance, I'm never anyone's nightmare. They project, and I to pick it up.

In this moment, I recognize in grief that when I pause to look bank at my life, I see happiness within the journey now. I'm happy about the breakdowns to support me in finding my footing today. I'm happy for the memories to keep me safe and secure in their absence. I'm happy about the lessons that guide me to my tomorrow.
