I opened my own center in Berkeley!

I’d like to tell a little of the story of how I got here.

Over the next few weeks I will write a few posts that will share some of the journey I have been on...

My career as a healer started with massage, Chinese folk medicine practices, craniosacral therapy, and energetic “low-force/no-force” techniques. From there, I moved into myofascial therapy, chiropractic, and sports medicine.

But over the years, I’ve been pulled deeper—into the nervous system, systems biology, neuroplasticity, and human development.

Underlying all of it have been a few questions that continue to fascinate me:
How does this incredibly complex body-mind develop into who we are? What forces—physical, biological, environmental, cultural—shape that development? And how can we work with those processes to improve health, performance, and physical, mental, and spiritual well-being?

Those questions have led me down a long road of studying developmental and functional neurology, functional medicine, nutrition, rehabilitation, and a lot of other disciplines I never imagined would become part of my work when I started.

Can a colored lens change how the brain functions?

In functional neurology, we’re interested in the central integrative state of the nervous system—essentially, the moment-to-moment balance of excitation, inhibition, and responsiveness across interconnected neural networks.

Vision is one of the largest sources of sensory input into the brain. And light doesn’t simply allow us to see—it influences activity throughout the nervous system.

Different wavelengths of light preferentially stimulate different retinal photoreceptors and retinal circuits. From there, signals travel into pathways involving the thalamus, visual cortex, midbrain, hypothalamus, and autonomic nervous system.

That means changing the spectral qualities of the light entering the eyes can sometimes change more than visual perception.

In the clinic, carefully selected colored lenses may produce immediate changes in things like:

• eye tracking and fixation
• balance and postural stability
• muscle tone
• spatial orientation
• visual comfort
• headache or light sensitivity
• autonomic arousal

The important point is that there isn’t one universally “good” color.

A color that appears organizing or calming for one nervous system may be neutral—or even provocative—for another. In functional neurology, we can introduce different lenses and then re-test objective neurological findings to see whether the nervous system becomes more or less organized.

This is a useful example of a larger principle of neuroplastic rehabilitation:

Change the sensory input → observe the neurological response → adjust the stimulus accordingly.

Sometimes a surprisingly small change in sensory input can produce a measurable change in how the nervous system organizes itself.

Now carrying some of my favorite supplements!

We’ve got you covered for brain health, stress, mitochondrial function, inflammation and more.

Some of my favorite lesser known herbs and supplements:

-systemic proteomics enzymes- help break down scar tissue throughout the body
-neurotransmitter substrates and precursors- modulate neurotransmitter function without psychiatric drugs!
-salt-based electrolytes- sooooo refreshing! Amazing for POTS.
-Cream based adrenal support- quickly get it into Your blood stream by rubbing it into your wrists and neck
-Methylene Blue- a chemical die from the 1800’s. Used off label to boost cellular energy and brain function.

Qigong for Health & Spiritual Development

I’m pleased to be leading a weekly qigong class at the new clinic space on Alcatraz. Qigong is a practice of gentle movement, meditation, breath, and focused awareness designed to cultivate health, vitality, inner stillness, and spiritual growth.

Drawing primarily from Zhineng (Wisdom Healing) Qigong, the class explores practices that integrate body and mind, deepen awareness, regulate the nervous system, and cultivate our connection with ourselves and the world around us.

The class is accessible to beginners while offering a rich practice for those interested in deeper meditation, energetic cultivation, and spiritual development.

This practice is highly encouraged for those who struggle with autoimmunity, and other complex, chronic conditions, who are interested in the art of self-healing.

🥊 Myofascial Therapy for Muay Thai

Muay Thai asks a lot from the body—repetitive kicking, checking, clinching, punching, rotation, impact, and high-volume conditioning.

Over time, it’s not just the muscles that can get tight. The myofascial system—the connective tissue surrounding and integrating muscles, joints, nerves, and other structures—can become restricted and less adaptable.

Myofascial therapy can be a great addition to a fighter’s recovery and performance work. The goal isn’t simply to “dig into tight muscles.” It’s to restore movement, tissue adaptability, and better mechanics throughout the kinetic chain.

For Muay Thai athletes, I often focus on areas such as:

🥊 Hips and hip flexors for kicking mechanics
🥊 Adductors and groin for mobility and stability
🥊 Glutes and lateral hip for power generation
🥊 Calves, ankles, and feet for footwork and kicking
🥊 Thoracic spine and ribs for rotation
🥊 Lats, pecs, shoulders, and neck for punching and clinching

The body works as an interconnected system. A restriction around the hip can change the way you rotate. Limited ankle motion can alter your stance. Restricted ribs or thoracic mobility can affect how efficiently you transfer power into a punch.

Good manual therapy isn’t about making a fighter looser everywhere. Fighters need stiffness and stability too. The goal is to create mobility where you need mobility, stability where you need stability, and efficient movement between the two.

Train hard. Recover intelligently. Keep your body capable of doing what you ask of it. 🥊

It is only through the sacrifice of my teachers that I have learned or accomplished anything.

Blessings and long life to the teachers, the wisdom masters, and lineage carriers.

beginning of August!

I’m so excited to build a dedicated pediatric neurorehab gym, have greater space for my musculoskeletal therapy practice, space to teach movement classes, chi gong and meditation, and train therapists to create a unique and cutting edge healing center!

Over the next year I will be brining in
-hyperbaric chamber
-exercise with oxygen therapy (EWOT)
-functional medicine laboratory testing
-high quality supplements and bio hacking
-Photobiomodulation
-pulsed electro magnetic field therapy
-neurofeedback
-trans cranial direct current
-pulsed radio frequency
-all manner of oculomotor training
-sensory-motor integration therapy

I started working here with Bruce Rizzo in 2015 or 2016 as a massage therapist seeing his patients. It was a great residency and learning opportunity, when I graduated in 2018, I opened my clinic alongside Bruce and Richard Burg at the 6330 Telegraph Offices the same month my son was born.

It has been such an incredible time of learning, community, healing and growth. I’m forever grateful to my colleagues and mentors and feel blessed to be off to start the next chapter!!

Can Creatine Help When You’re Sleep Deprived? 😴🧠

No supplement can replace a good night’s sleep—but creatine may help your brain function better when sleep isn’t ideal.

Most people think of creatine as a supplement for building muscle, but it also plays an important role in brain energy metabolism.

Your brain relies on ATP (cellular energy) to think, learn, focus, and coordinate movement. Creatine helps regenerate ATP quickly, acting as an energy reserve when your brain is under stress—including during periods of sleep deprivation.

Research suggests creatine may help:
✅ Maintain mental clarity
✅ Improve reaction time
✅ Support working memory
✅ Reduce mental fatigue
✅ Buffer some of the effects of short-term sleep loss

This doesn’t mean you need less sleep. Sleep is still essential for recovery, memory consolidation, immune function, and overall health. But creatine may help your brain stay more resilient when life occasionally gets in the way of getting enough rest.

This is one reason researchers are also exploring creatine for conditions involving impaired brain energy metabolism, including concussion and other neurological disorders.

Sleep first. Creatine second. Your brain needs both.
