3-Shemu • Third Month of Harvest
In the first two months of Shemu, the ancient Egyptians harvested their crops. Grain was the foundation of life. Communities then faced a different task. They had to decide what portion to use now and what portion to store for the future.
Archaeologists have uncovered the remains of large stone silos, over 4,000 years old (Image credit: Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities). These chambers held the grain that sustained entire communities through uncertainty. They were a practical expression of resilience and foresight.
In our devotional practice, 3-Shemu invites the same reflection. What inner resources have we spent? What must we replenish? What strength, clarity, and courage do we need to store now so that we can meet what lies ahead?
▪ What We Ask Her Help For This Month
Each month, we offer our raised energy to Sekhmet for a real-world concern larger than any one person can solve.
As Pride fills our streets and the anniversary of the Pulse massacre returns to memory, many in our communities feel both joy and grief, celebration and vigilance. LGBTQ+ people and many others continue to face harm, erasure, and attack. At the same time, many of us are carrying exhaustion, burnout, and depleted reserves.
This month we ask Sekhmet to help restore the inner stores of strength and courage that our communities have lost, so that we may stand together in fierce protection of LGBTQ+ lives and in solidarity with all who are made vulnerable. May our replenished resilience become a shield for those who need it most.
▪ About the Sekhmet Ritual Meditation
The Sekhmet Ritual Meditation is a devotional practice of breath, movement, and offering. We work with the body’s vital fire, raising erotic energy as a somatic act of reciprocity with the Goddess. In this practice, we give the Goddess what She wants, that She may choose to give us what we need.
