Hi everyone! I really miss you! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything and thought I would share some beautiful flowers, trees and me with bad hair (I need a haircut so bad!!!) from my daily walks. I’ve been sheltering in place in Long Beach California for almost 8 weeks now and I feel so grateful to be a couple miles from the beach. When I walk I often stop to admire people’s front lawns and gardens - the simple joy of gorgeous flowers and well curated landscaping really makes my day! I’ve also been doing lots of yoga, meditation, reading, listening to podcasts, cooking and trying to only freak myself out with the news for 20 minutes in the morning. Not watching too much tv but there are days where I just have to turn my brain off and episodes of RuPauls Drag Race is just the ticket. I feel super grateful that I’ve been healthy and that everyone I love is healthy - taking every breath of the ocean air is such a gift! I’m hoping that I can start seeing clients in June, but like everyone else I’m waiting to see what will be allowed. So as of now my June books are open, and I’ll update you if things change. I’ll be keeping up with whatever standards The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology will set in place for SOP and will be requiring things like masks, etc. You may notice that appointments will be longer to take into account my need to properly sterilize the room between clients. Also my hours and studio days change. Please bear with me! My number one priority will be keeping you safe and providing a clean environment. More news on the way. I love you. Stay safe. A lovely feathery brow on the fabulous who gives the most DELICIOUS facials at please go see her! At Careful we like our brows full and natural and trimming is everything! I cut each individual hair instead of the old school technique of combing up and cutting across, which can shorten the brow. Each hair is cut at an angle and takes into account the natural bend of the hair and how it adds to the overall shape. Doing brows is like surgery to me and each hair counts! Brows are not an obsession they’re a passion ❤️

Have you been sugared yet!!?? Why is it after YEARS of waxing you’re suddenly getting ingrowns? Waxing warps the hair follicle because hair is removed in the opposite direction of growth. After prolonged waxing the hair hits the surface of the skin of a warped follicle then curls back, causing a nasty ingrown. Sugaring removes hair in the direction of the hair growth and can actually gently retrain the follicle due to the fact that the sugar molecule is so small in seeps into the skin. Plus sugar doesn’t stick to the skin and won’t pull and cause irritation like waxing! Amazing!! You’ll never want to wax again!!!!

BETSEY FU***NG JOHNSON!!!! Fun fact - I was a Betsey girl!!! I started working at her Beverly Center Store in West Hollywood in 2001 (sadly my first day was supposed to be 9/11) and my journey took me to Newport Beach, Sherman Oaks until I finally managed her flagship Melrose store! It was a dream come true!!! I ended my Betsey career in San Francisco in 2012 (when I walked down the street and worked for another pink and black themed company - Agent Provocateur). For the 11 years I worked for Betsey I was indeed a mo*********ng Betsey girl through and through. I walked miles in my Polly pumps, went to punk shows in prom dresses and was never EVER without my red lipstick (it was a non negotiable!). We were a special breed, we stuck together, we went out together and I made some amazing long lasting friendships in my fellow Betsey girls! Betsey was an amazing woman to work for, she became like my fairy godmother and she was always positive, upbeat and vibrant. I remember the time we had a party at the Melrose store and I was given a show piece to wear (which I thought was a shirt) so I came out of the bathroom and she screamed “WHAT HAPPENED TO IT!!??” because it was actually a teeny tiny dress and she thought it had shrunk or been altered and I was just wearing it wrong!!! Betsey was always thoughtful and I’ll never forget her kindness when my father passed away as she called me personally and sent me flowers. I’ll forever be a Betsey girl!! And forever love the wild, punk, unique, bold, sexy style that is distinctly Betsey!! All my Betsey girls out there HOLLER! Tell me your favorite Betsey memory! Tag other Betsey girls!! XO BETSEY💖

Before and after! Sometimes a little bit of trimming and cleanup is all that’s needed! I wanted to keep Vanessa’s beautiful and strong natural fullness and shape and give her enough hair to fill in with her (which fills in brows naturally without making them look overdone or too dramatic). Trimming was really key in maintaining the shape. Have you tried trimming your own brows!? It’s difficult! I cut each hair individually and at an angle, working along with the brows shape. Cutting too much off can actually shorten the brow or leave a hole. I learned how to cut brows after years of working in a hair salon and watching the stylist cut hair - I hold my scissors at an angle and go along with the bend of the hair!
