Employee Spotlight!

Chaplains Pat and Don DuPlechain

Don DuPlechain began his chaplaincy career with Brighton Bridge Hospice at the very beginning of the company’s startup in 2005. Pat joined the organization in 2007 as Volunteer Coordinator and later transitioned into the role of Chaplain in 2022.

Don’s commitment to serving his community was evident through the countless hours he dedicated to various organizations throughout Allen Parish. He served on numerous boards, including the Election Supervisors Board and the Allen Parish Fair Board, among others. In the 1990s, Don also began volunteering within the prison system.

His mentor, Tom Fuell, volunteered with a hospice agency and often shared how rewarding the work was. When an opportunity arose to serve with Brighton Bridge Hospice, Don eagerly accepted the role of Chaplain. As pastor of a local church, this position also allowed him to minister more effectively to the elderly members of his congregation.

Don often said, “My work with BBH is not a job. It’s my ministry. God gave me this!” We couldn’t agree more. When you love what you do, it never feels like work.

Pat began her journey with Brighton Bridge Hospice as Volunteer Coordinator. Building the volunteer program from the ground up was no easy task, but she credits its success to the grace of God. After serving faithfully in that role for 15 years, God opened a new door.

When Don underwent surgery, Pat stepped in to care for his patients for an eight-week period. She quickly discovered how much she loved the role and jokingly told Don, “You can’t have your patients back—I’m keeping them!”

Around that same time, another chaplain retired due to health concerns, creating an opportunity for Pat to step into a full-time chaplain position. Since then, she has embraced the calling wholeheartedly. Pat says, "This is the best thing I have ever done, with God leading and directing our lives.”

Together, Pat and Don have faithfully served Brighton Bridge Hospice and their community, sharing compassion, comfort, and spiritual care with countless patients and families throughout the years.
