Marion Therapeutic Riding Association (MTRA), Ocala, Florida To promote wellness, exercise, and education while providing the miraculous benefits of therapeutic

The therapeutic benefits of the horse were recognized as early as 460 BC, and have continued to evolve over the centuries throughout Europe, the United States and Canada. Today, therapeutic riding therapy is a proven type of physical, emotional and mental therapy for children and adults. Because horseback riding gently and rhythmically moves the client's body in a manner similar to a human gait, c

lients with physical disabilities often show improvement in flexibility, balance, posture and muscle strength. It has also been proven to affect psychological, cognitive, behavioral and communication functions for clients of all ages. The special relationship formed between horse and client often leads to increased confidence, patience, self-esteem, independence and acceptance. With the benefits so far reaching, MTRA follows an "adaptive equestrian experience" model which enables us to provide a full range of equine-assisted therapeutic programs, including riding therapy, carriage driving, trail courses, equine assisted psychotherapy, Special Olympics and more. This allows us to match client skills to the program best suited for them, while ensuring that we keep pace with the latest techniques to advance the progress of our students. Our riding schedule typically runs 6 days a week, 9 months a year, with morning, afternoon and evening classes. Each lesson provides a combination of riding or carriage driving with ground time to strengthen the bond even deeper between horse and client. Our integrated riding approach enables clients to work with the same horse, the same volunteers and the same instructors for each 9-week period. Whatever type of equine-assisted therapy clients choose, our goal is to help each client achieve their personal best in a warm, professional and consistent environment.

After many Saturdays of patience, nurturing, building trust, and taking one small step at a time… today, this rider got on his horse for the very first time!

What may seem like a simple moment to some is an incredible achievement for our riders. These are the moments that remind us why patience matters, why we celebrate every step forward, and why little achievements can truly feel like miracles.

Today, we celebrate courage, trust, perseverance—and one very special first ride. 💙🐴

Way to go! We are so proud of you!

From little riders to big dreams, our amazing horses, volunteers, staff, and families come together to create moments that are full of courage, connection, and a whole lot of joy.

Here’s to 250 years of the American spirit—and to MTRA celebrating that spirit every day, one ride at a time! 🇺🇸🐎🎉

On a hot Florida day, even the little things matter. Braiding Fancy’s mane helps keep her long hair neat, reduces tangling and makes grooming easier. It also keeps some of that hair off her neck, allowing a passing breeze to reach her skin a little more easily.

Just one small part of the daily care and attention our MTRA horses receive—because keeping our herd comfortable, healthy and happy is always a priority. ❤️🐴

Big Boy is getting some extra TLC today! 🐴💜

On this warm Florida day, he’s being bathed, clipped, and thoroughly pampered by the MTRA staff who love him so much. Our horses give their hearts to the people we serve, so we believe they deserve that same level of care, attention, and love in return.

At MTRA, our horses are more than partners in our work — they’re family. 💜🐴

🐴 Knowledge, confidence, and a little horse power! 💚

One of our brilliant teen volunteers sharing her equine knowledge and building confidence along the way.

MTRA’s Bridge to Success Program is an equine-assisted initiative that helps teens and young adults develop life skills, job readiness, communication, teamwork, responsibility, and self-confidence—all while learning valuable skills through their connection with horses.

We love watching our young people learn, lead, and grow! ✨

Joy like this can’t be taught—it grows through connection. 💙🐴

Equine-assisted therapy creates opportunities for riders to build strength, confidence, communication skills, and emotional resilience in an encouraging environment. Every brush stroke, every hug, every ride, and every shared moment with a horse helps foster growth in ways that extend far beyond the arena.

Just one look at these smiles reminds us why these moments matter. The joy is genuine, the connection is real, and the impact lasts long after the lesson ends.

Stormy skies. Green pastures. A horse who doesn’t seem bothered at all. 🌧️🐴
Fun fact: Horses have a natural defense against rain—their coats are designed to help shed water and keep their skin dry. Sometimes, the best place to be during a passing shower is simply out in the pasture. 💚
