University of Mississippi researchers Justin Sherman, Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice and NCCRE team member, and Daniel Riche, Professor of Pharmacy Practice and Research Professor, recently published a systematic review in Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research. The pair evaluated the effectiveness of medical cannabis for treating painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Data from multiple randomized controlled trials served as the foundation for this analysis, which found that three out of four studies reported significant pain reduction compared to a placebo. Clinically meaningful relief was specifically associated with vaporized or sublingual THC doses of 16β18 mg. This peer-reviewed analysis provides clinicians with the data needed to make informed decisions regarding cannabinoid-based pain management.
