Henry Darby is the principal of North Charleston High School in South Carolina. During the day, he's a devoted school leader.

Outside of school hours, Darby works three overnight shifts each week from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., wearing a Walmart vest and stocking shelves. Every dollar he earns is quietly given to students facing challenges like food insecurity, unstable housing, or unmet basic needs. “As long as there’s a child in need, I’ll do what I can,” Henry has shared.

For a long time, only a small circle knew about his second job. The story gradually surfaced after a Walmart coworker recognized him as a school principal. Once shared publicly, his kindness resonated widely, inspiring a community member to launch a GoFundMe campaign. Donations poured in, raising more than $190,000 to help families cover rent, utilities, and groceries.

Darby says the true reward isn’t recognition or money, but watching students gain confidence and hope. He continues his work to show students that honest work carries dignity and purpose.

Enoch "Woody" Woodhouse is one of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, and he was born January 14, 1927 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. When he was just 17 years old, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Woody served with honor as a paymaster in the 332nd Fighter Group and was part of a historic unit that helped break barriers in the U.S. military.

After the war, Woody continued to lead an extraordinary life and graduated from Yale University. He later earned his law degree from Boston University. While attending Yale, Woody faced ostracism and isolation as a Black student on campus. He was ignored in classes and during meals in the dining hall, according to the Yale Alumni Association. Woody said, "I don't consider myself a victim. I would be the first to correct anyone who would refer to me as one."

Woody became a dedicated lawyer, an advocate for veterans, and received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007. The City of Boston later honored him by naming the intersection of Boylston and Dartmouth Streets "Citizen Square." Woody will celebrate his 99th birthday on January 14, 2026.

Seismologists have documented a strange, very low-frequency seismic signal that repeats with a period of about 26 seconds.

Research has constrained its source to a fixed area in the Gulf of Guinea, and the signal has been observed for decades. Studies report that this narrow-band “26 s microseism” can be detected globally, and at times it grows strong enough to show up on quiet seismic stations far from the source.

Even so, researchers say its physical cause remains unclear and “enigmatic,” with competing ideas discussed in the scientific literature.
