One of the biggest reasons dancers get stuck on a skill isn’t what they think.

It’s easy to assume it’s just technique & that they need more corrections, more reps, or more practice.

But a lot of the time, the issue isn’t they need more…

it’s what their body can actually support.

Strength.
Control.
Coordination.
Capacity.

If those pieces aren’t there yet, repeating the skill over and over won’t fix it.

It just reinforces inefficient patterns — and often leads to frustration, plateaus, or even injury.

When we take a step back and build what’s missing, everything starts to click much faster — because their body is finally able to do what they’re asking of it.

That’s the difference between just practicing more… and actually progressing.

If your dancer has been stuck on a skill despite more classes or privates, there’s usually a reason… and this is exactly what I help dancers figure out. Click the link in my bio to book a call!

One of the biggest misconceptions in dance injuries:
It’s not about stopping completely… or going back 100% full out.

It’s about finding the right level of load, intensity, and modification and progressing from there.

Every dancer is different. Every injury is different. Rehab & dance training management should account for those nuances.

Save this if you’ve ever been told to ‘just rest’ or ‘just push through.

One of the biggest misconceptions I see with dancers is how pain gets interpreted.

Pain shows up, and it immediately gets labeled as something bad — something to avoid, push through, or completely shut down.

But pain isn’t that simple.

Pain is information.

Sometimes it’s your body asking for more support.

Sometimes it’s a response to load, fatigue, or how you’re moving.

And sometimes it’s a sign that something needs to change — not stop.

When we treat all pain the same, we miss the opportunity to actually understand what your body is telling you.

And that’s where dancers get stuck — either doing nothing, or pushing through without a plan.

The goal isn’t to ignore pain. And it’s not to fear it either.
It’s to understand it, work with it, and use it to guide what comes next.

That’s how you keep progressing without constantly taking steps backward.

This is what it actually looks like to train through the rehab process… not around it.

Controlled. Intentional. Progressive.

If you are a dancer or parent of a dancer trying to navigate the comp season with pain or an injury, message Dr. Leah to explore how she can help.

The best rehab plans don’t remove dancers from movement.
They guide them through it.

With thoughtful progression & consideration for the unique training demands, dancers can experience the power of the grey area.

The grey area is where we rebuild strength, control, and confidence.

The goal isn’t just to get out of pain.

It’s to make sure your body is actually prepared to return to dance without falling right back into the same pattern.

Change your strength. Change your biomechanics. Change your capacity.

That’s where real progress happens.

This is one of the most common patterns I see with dancers.
Pain shows up → you rest → it feels better → you go back → and it comes right back.

That’s not a coincidence.

It means nothing actually changed in the way your body is moving, loading, or handling demand.

If we don’t address that, the cycle continues.

DM Dr. Leah if this pattern feels familiar & you are frustrated being stuck in this cycle.

Rest can reduce symptoms, but it doesn’t solve the underlying issue.

If strength, control, or movement patterns haven’t changed, your body will respond the same way when you go back.
You change nothing… so nothing changes.

That’s why we focus on breaking the cycle – not just quieting the pain.

Competition season hits different.

More reps.
Longer rehearsals.
Full-out runs.
Adrenaline masking fatigue.

This is when I see the flare-ups happen — hips, ankles, low backs, stress reactions.

Not because dancers aren’t strong.

But because the demand just went up.

During comp season, rehab shifts from just “fixing pain” to:
• Managing load
• Supporting recovery
• Maintaining strength
• Keeping dancers performance-ready

If your dancer is in the middle of comp season and something feels “off,” don’t wait until it becomes something bigger.

Message me, this is exactly when proactive care matters most.

Pain-free doesn’t always mean performance-ready.

Before she returns to stage, we reintegrate choreography here, in a controlled, supportive space, so she rebuilds strength and trust in her body.

Because confidence is both physical and mental.

If your dancer is coming back from injury and you want her truly ready to perform, message me to learn more.
