What does Relaxation cost? In a culture that claims massage is a “luxury,” let’s look at what people are actually spending on stress management.
The average American spends about $300–$330 per month on eating out. This includes restaurants, takeout, delivery, coffee shops, and fast food...
The average American spends $82 a month on alcohol. The average American that uses ma*****na, typically spends $100–$300. Heavy consumers can easily cross the $1,000 mark monthly on these habitual relaxation substances.
Most of these chemical strategies are far less effective in the long range than a consistent rhythm of bodywork. They provide a temporary escape, without the biological “update” that manual therapy provides.
With all this considered, a monthly massage session is actually quite affordable!
When a client tells me that they can’t afford to schedule a session once a month, I know they are usually talking about their own priorities. I realize that I am actually not competing for business with the local “walk in” spa - I am actually competing with the $200 a month people spend on “taking the edge off” in ways that don’t actually heal them.
As your Massage therapist, I would like to help you see the difference between a habitual cost and a wellness investment. Release the trapped cycle of suppression vs. consistency baseline that allows your nervous system to actually heal, repair and thrive.
How could you re-evaluate your wellness budget?
