Breastfeeding is a natural process that carefully interconnects hormones, physiological responses, instincts, all in one cycle and when we try to intervene to try to make it convenient or comfortable, we usually mess up one of those.
We try to make convenient and comfortable a process that is never designed to be those things. And sometimes we have to accept it for what it is instead of trying to change it.

💕

I’ve seen breastfeeding thrive when mothers understand and surrender the need for control. We can’t control baby’s behavior, is wired to survive. Night wakings? Survive. Feeding constantly? Survive. Growth spurts ? Survive

Understanding that health, growth, feeding, behavior is all connected will help us surrender the need to control feeding.

My midwife told me to read a book called “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding” and that was one the best advice I received.
I think the worst advice was to read “Moms on call” and to try to make a nap/feeding schedule. That was by far, the worst thing I could’ve attempted while trying to breastfeed as a first time mom.

Research consistently shows that breastfeeding supports an infant’s immune system, brain development, and emotional regulation. Skin to skin contact and responsive feeding also help strengthen attachment between mother and baby. These early interactions shape how infants experience security, stress, and comfort in the world.

At the same time, breastfeeding is not only about long term health outcomes. It is also about thousands of small moments:
- being held when crying
- falling asleep at the breast
- hearing mom’s heartbeat
- regulating breathing and temperature through closeness
- finding safety during fear or overstimulation

That is why many mothers describe breastfeeding as one of the deepest emotional bonds they experience with their child.

For mothers who choose and are able to breastfeed, it becomes a relationship that impacts both mother and baby in deeply lasting ways. 🤱🏼✨

Breastfed babies need to latch on demand, at least 10-12 times in 24 hours. They eat small amounts, several times a day. In this situation, the recommendation that we normally hear in hospitals “feed 1-2 oz every 3-4 hrs” doesn’t really apply to a mother-baby wishing to breastfeed.

Understanding breastfeeding will allow the mother to make decisions that will benefit the breastfeeding relationship regardless the hospital recommendations.

Take a breastfeeding class and have a lactation appointment ready for day 3-4 postpartum.

(This is only for healthy, full term infants. Situations like medical conditions, NICU stays, and other events might requiere a different approach)

Hey there!
Labor is not easy, but it can be beautiful… you know, like the kind of pain you put yourself through if you are an athlete. You love to go get that workout even if you know it will hurt, you love to push your body and your mind to the limit, even if you know it will hurt.
This uncomfortable feeling has the biggest purpose of your life, not only figuratively, but LITERALLY. The pain of your contractions are releasing hormones to help your baby’s lungs and make breathing easier when they are born.

So don’t be scared of the sensations, call it “pressure” call it “wave” call it “intensity” instead of pain. (Wow, that came out nice 😂)

It doesn’t matter, it’s a beautiful thing that we were gifted with.

The fitness coach in my always shows up when I’m supporting a mom in labor, phrases like:

“It’s ok to be uncomfortable”
“You are stronger than this wave”
“Come on, mama! Show yourself what you are made out of”
(Thanks OTF)

Sometimes an epidural will get you to the finish line, sometimes all you need is to believe you can!

Love,
Ana

Hello! It’s been a while. Here’s a little life update 💕
For the ones new here and for my long time friends:

I am Ana, the owner of Wonderfully Made WTX. Jesus follower, mother, wife and passionate about birth and lactation.

Previously a doula and placenta encapsulator, I have recently transitioned to specialize exclusively in lactation support. As I approach the final stages of becoming board certified, my current focus is dedicated to supporting breastfeeding families while I study for my international certification.

I have been diligently fulfilling the requirements necessary to become an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, including over 500 clinical hours 😅 it has taken more than 3 years. I am extremely blessed to be mentored by one of the most amazing IBCLC’s and to have the support of my family and my MIL to take care of my children while I did this.

But don’t worry, if you need your placenta encapsulated, keepsakes or a birth or postpartum doula. Please reach out! I have some amazing local friends!

If you been a Wonderfully Made client, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart! It’s been an honor to serve your family! 💕

Love
-Ana
