Vitamin D supports much more than bone health. It also plays an important role in immune function, muscle health, mood regulation, and healthy growth and development in children and teens.

Vitamin D deficiency is more common than many realize and may affect both adults and children. Factors such as limited sun exposure, indoor lifestyles, diet, and increased melanin in darker skin tones may increase the risk for low Vitamin D levels.

In children and adolescents, prolonged deficiency may contribute to poor bone health, muscle weakness, fatigue, and impaired healthy bone development during important growth years.

Parents can support healthy Vitamin D levels through balanced nutrition, outdoor activity/sun exposure when appropriate, and discussing supplementation with their healthcare provider when needed.

Awareness and prevention matter.
