Dear Friends,
Hasn't it felt like a non-stop storm this past month? Deep inside our emotions have spun this way and that, mirroring the chaotic twists and turns in the outer world. It has been a true challenge for all of us lately. Everyone has been shouldering the weight of things that have become heavier than we thought we could carry. What once felt secure has shifted in ways we didn’t see coming.
The storms of life remind us perfectly that we cannot control everything that happens . . . People come or go. Plans may collapse. Circumstances can change without notice. And yet, there remains the constants in every day: the sun rises (even if hidden behind the clouds), the seasons change, and life moves forward. And we must, too.
When storms hit, it’s easy to react to what is happening without pausing to consider why. This is when reaching for the quiet wisdom within us is so valuable. Given the opportunity to view things in a calmer way and from a higher vantage point, we can respond in healthy ways.
Being human takes courage and awareness. Sometimes a brave act can simply be getting out of bed when you’re exhausted. However, many of them require much more strength . . . choosing peace instead of retaliation, showing up when all you want is solitude, or walking away from that situation that continually diminishes you. That is resilience.
Every storm leaves something in its path . . . something not there before — deeper insight, stronger boundaries, clearer discernment, and a greater understanding of who we truly are. As we age we realize that the storms we experience aren’t for our destruction, but for our refinement. And, although they are not comfortable, we learn not to resist. We walk through them . . . sometimes stumbling, sometimes with head held high.
Gratefully, we have the ability to flex and bend when the wind blows . . . and return to stand taller. When all is said and done, the true gift of these profound lessons is the revelation of our inner strength . . . our tenacity of spirit.
With much love,
Peggy Lindsey
