Viruses are everywhere. Scientists estimate there are approximately 10Β³ΒΉ virus particles on Earth, more than the number of stars in the known universe. While only about 219 virus species are currently known to infect humans, researchers identify new human viruses every year, and hundreds of thousands more may have the potential to cross into humans in the future.
In this episode, Keith Bishop Prevail Over Cancer and Paul Conrady discuss how the body's immune system is designed to identify, respond to, and remember viral threats. They break down the three layers of immune defense, including physical barriers, innate immunity, and adaptive immunity, while exploring practical strategies that may help support immune resilience and overall wellness.
Topics discussed include:
β’ How skin, mucus membranes, and stomach acid act as the body's first line of defense
β’ The role of interferons, natural killer cells, macrophages, fever, and inflammation
β’ How T-cells, B-cells, antibodies, and immune memory work
β’ Garlic, onions, and allicin-containing foods
β’ Medicinal mushrooms including reishi, shiitake, and maitake
β’ Beta-glucans and innate immune support
β’ Colorful fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C and polyphenols
β’ Green tea, black tea, and EGCG
β’ Ginger, turmeric, and culinary herbs
β’ Fermented foods including yogurt, kefir, kimchi, and sauerkraut
β’ Gut health and why approximately 70% of immune tissue is associated with the digestive system
β’ Raw honey and bone broth
β’ The importance of sleep for immune function
β’ Exercise and immune surveillance
β’ Stress, cortisol, and infection susceptibility
β’ Sunlight exposure and vitamin D
β’ Sauna use and respiratory health
β’ Hydration and limiting excess sugar and alcohol
β’ Vitamin D3 and K2
β’ Zinc and quercetin
β’ Vitamin C
β’ Elderberry
β’ AHCC
β’ Beta-glucans
β’ N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
β’ Selenium
β’ Building resilience through lifestyle and nutrition
The goal is not to avoid every virus. The goal is to build a body that is prepared to respond effectively through proper nutrition, sleep, movement, stress management, hydration, and informed supplementation.
