Local photobiomodulation has randomized-trial support for certain pain conditions (e.g., a 2009 Lancet meta-analysis on neck pain). Prolotherapy injects a solution (often dextrose) near ligaments, tendons, or joints to prompt a brief, controlled healing response. 'Prolozone' adds ozone to that approach. The dextrose form is better studied: a 2024 meta-analysis reported reduced pain and stiffness and improved function in adults with knee osteoarthritis. Reviewers also note many trials are small and call for larger studies — so we set realistic expectations. The ozone component specifically is investigational and not FDA-approved.

In a 2024 systematic review of 15 randomized, double-blind trials (1,600+ patients), researchers reported PRP lowered pain and improved WOMAC function scores versus hyaluronic acid at 12 months.
