After more than 25 years of service at INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute, Gary Larson, M.D., is retiring.

Among his many accolades, Dr. Larson:
💚 Performed the first ultrasound-guided trans-perineal brachytherapy for prostate cancer in Oklahoma using iodine or palladium in 1995.
💚 Brought the first CT simulator to Oklahoma in 1994.
💚 Helped design INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute and the proton center.

On Thursday, caregivers, friends and family gathered around Dr. Larson to wish him a happy retirement. We are incredibly thankful for him and all he has done for INTEGRIS Health over the years. Join us in wishing him well!

INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute is excited to announce that Bilal Ahmad, M.D., a board-certified hematologist and oncologist, will begin seeing patients at our new oncology outreach clinic in Chickasha. 🎉

Beginning at the end of September, Dr. Ahmad will provide compassionate, expert oncology care every other Wednesday at Grady Memorial Hospital at 2100 W. Iowa Avenue in Chickasha.

This outreach clinic is designed to bring high-quality cancer care closer to home, making it easier for patients and families in our community to access the specialized treatment and support they need.

Eighty-one-year-old Mike Loyd is somewhat of a handy man. “I've always been kind of active mechanically,” he claims. “But it was kind of getting difficult to do things with my hands because they were hurting so much.”

That’s when he went to see Shripal Bhavsar, M.D., a radiation oncologist at INTEGRIS Health Cancer Institute. Bhavsar recommended using low-dose radiation to treat Mike’s osteoarthritis. This technique uses small amounts of X-ray energy to target inflamed and painful joints.

“For Mike, we set up a plan to essentially treat all of the joints in both of his hands,” says Bhavsar. “We were able to do both hands at the same time. We did roughly a couple treatments a week for about eight weeks. At the end of that, he felt considerably better.”

Patients frequently report returning to hobbies they previously abandoned due to physical limitations. For Mike, he's back in his garage tinkering with his cars.
