We do this through a combination of volunteers to help build the costumes, and donations to keep the costumes free. We never knew that when our 3 year old son wanted to be Wall-E for Halloween, and we built a costume around his wheelchair, that it was the beginning of an epic journey of discovery. Not just discovery of what we can build and design around a wheelchair, but the discovery of how that
simple wheelchair costume would forever change our son’s outlook toward life. His self esteem skyrocketed, his peers, who used to look at him differently, suddenly looked at him in awe and saw him as just another kid with an incredible Halloween costume. He became proud of his costume and shared it with everyone he met. It was in that moment that we realized this was not just a Halloween costume made of cardboard, paint, and plastic. It was so much more, and it would forever change our lives. We wanted to share that same experience with other families. We’ve come a long way over the years, and we have so much further to go. Our goal is to build unique costumes for ever special needs kid who would like one, free of charge to the families. But we can't do that without you. There are many ways to help our organization grow. You can volunteer to help build the costumes, design the costumes, or just help out with our workshops and events. All of these costumes take many man-hours to build and the more volunteers we have, the more costumes we can build for these kids. Another opportunity to help is by donating. These costumes are free to the families that receive them, but they are not free to put together and ship to the families. Our costumes range in price from $150-350 and if we need to ship them, shipping can run between $100-200 each depending on the size of the costume. We raise our funds through donations and fundraisers. You can donate on our page, or our website. A final way to help is starting your own branch of Walkin' & Rollin' Costumes in your area. We have had schools, boy scout and girl scout troupes, churches, and even physical therapists start their own group to help build a costume for a local child in their community. We will help with designing, or answering any questions and help you get started in any way needed. Contact us through out website, or here on Facebook to learn more.
