🔥How to fuel your body for your workouts

💦Hydrate a few hours BEFORE your workouts so you do not have to guzzle during workouts

🧘‍♀️For low intensity exercise (walking, golf, stretching) it is not imperative you eat beforehand

🏃🏾‍♀️For higher intensity exercise it is critical you eat a balanced snack beforehand - think complex carb and a bit of protein/fat

🍽️After a high intensity/strength building workout try and eat 20g of protein within 90 minutes

💙 Recognize that when you work out you need to fuel your body... DO NOT fast especially if you are working hard.

What’s the best exercise in perimenopause? The one you love to do consistently 💗

    •    Exercise is not a punishment for what you have eaten. You do not have to work off calories, EVEN indulgent calories.

    •    It is not realistic to expect your body to look like it did 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. It is normal for our weight to fluctuate over our lifetime.

    •    Your beautiful body is unique to you! Celebrate the things you love about your body and work on accepting those that are not your favorite.

    •    The best movement for you is the one you LOVE to do and will enjoy doing consistently.

Anyone who knows me. Knows I LOVE Pilates and Yoga. The benefits of these practices are basically endless (IMO). They have kept me grounded, strong, flexible with a killer core.

Lifting weights however is not my favorite. Left to myself I will find any excuse to do something else! But as I’ve navigated my way through perimenopause I discovered that lifting something heavy just twice a week is critical for healthy aging. This is why I love teaching fusion pilates classes incorporating weights as a complement to traditional pilates reformer classes. I also invest in myself to work with a trainer to keep me motivated at the gym. Remember you are worth it! Invest in your health. Let’s work on those old lady bods, getting stronger together!

Benefits of lifting weights:

💪Protects bones – strength training helps prevent bone loss & fractures

💪Maintains muscle –less estrogen equals less muscle. The best way to keep it is to lift something a bit heavy.

💪Boosts metabolism – more muscle = better fat burning

💪Supports hormones – improves insulin sensitivity & less fat stores to produce inflammatory types of estrogen

💪Joint & injury protection – stronger muscles stabilize joints

💪Improves balance – lowers fall risk as we age

💪Mental strength – reduces stress, boosts confidence & mood

💪Functional power – makes daily life easier so you can keep doing what you enjoy!
