My annual post of Ragweed vs Goldenrod
Goldenrod is wrongly accused of causing allergies. The actual culprit is ragweed. Both plants flower at the same time (right now). Ragweed has green flowers that blend in and are hidden, which cause goldenrod to take the blame.
Common ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) is a native plant that is wind-born pollenated. The pollen is sent through the air with every breeze.
Goldenrod (Solidago spp.) is native, insect pollinated, needs insects in order to release it's pollen. It doesn’t release its pollen into the air. You would need to stick your nose right in the flower to be affected by the pollen.
AND! Goldenrod is one of the best plants for sinus issues!! When I worked in the field I had sinus issues due to corn dust. I would find just one leaf of goldenrod to chew on and my nose was clear. It's also good for the urinary tract and digestive system.
Now, stop cussing out goldenrod!
It's here for your benefit 💙
(Although, with everything, we are all different and few people could be allergic. Always use caution with anything.)
