September is Pain Awareness Month. This month we recognize the millions of people living with chronic pain and the importance of increasing awareness, understanding, and support. Chronic pain affects every person differently, which is why compassion, connection, and individualized care matter. By listening to those with lived experience and advancing research, we can work together toward better pain prevention, treatment, and quality of life.

Let's raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those impacted by chronic pain.

Physician Family Day recognizes not only the dedication of physicians, but also the families who support them through long hours, demanding schedules, and the challenges of caring for others. Established by the AMA Alliance in 2018, this observance raises awareness of physician well-being and the importance of family, connection, and self-care. Today, we thank physicians and their loved ones for their commitment to keeping our communities healthy.

August 21st is National Senior Citizens Day! It is time to recognize and celebrate the contributions, wisdom, and achievements of older adults in our communities. Established in 1988, the observance honors seniors for their lifelong dedication to their families, workplaces, and communities while encouraging everyone to support aging with dignity, independence, and respect. Take a moment to thank a senior citizen, share a favorite memory, or connect with an older adult who has made a difference in your life.

August is National Eye Exam Month, a great reminder to make your vision health a priority. Regular eye exams do more than check if you need glasses or contacts, they can help detect eye diseases early, often before symptoms appear, and may even reveal signs of other health conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. About 11 million Americans age 12 and older need vision correction, making routine eye care an important part of overall wellness. Schedule your annual eye exam and take a proactive step toward protecting your sight and long-term health.

July 28 is World Hepatitis Day.

Viral hepatitis affects more than 300 million people worldwide and leads to over 1 million deaths each year.

This day is a reminder of the importance of awareness, prevention, and access to testing and treatment. Many forms of hepatitis are preventable, and in some cases, curable.

Together, we can help reduce stigma, encourage screening, and support healthier communities.

As this year's main sponsor, PSW had an amazing time celebrating with our community. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the entertainment, collecting passport stamps, visiting booths, and stopping by our medieval-themed photo booth.

We loved helping guests discover their medieval names, strike a pose, and connect with local resources designed to support healthy and independent living.

Thank you to everyone who made Senior in the Park such a special day. We loved connecting with attendees, community partners, volunteers, vendors, and fellow organizations throughout the event. A special thank you to Senior Action Network for hosting this annual tradition and bringing together resources, activities, and opportunities that support seniors across our community. We are grateful for the chance to be part of this celebration and look forward to continuing to serve and support our local seniors.

Enjoy some of our favorite moments from the event!

Enjoying the sunshine? Don’t forget sun protection.

In recognition of UV Safety Month, it’s a great time to build simple habits that protect your skin, like sunscreen, shade, and protective clothing.

Even when it doesn’t feel hot or sunny, UV rays can still cause damage.

A few small steps today can make a big difference for your long-term health.

Protect Yourself from Medicare Fraud

Fraud and scams can put your personal information, benefits, and health care at risk. Medicare encourages beneficiaries to protect their Medicare number, review claims regularly, and report anything that doesn't look right. Medicare also reminds beneficiaries that Medicare will not call or visit your home to sell products or services.

Watch this important Medicare fraud awareness video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pzZbMsyntA

Ways to protect yourself:
-Treat your Medicare number like a credit card number
-Review your Medicare statements and claims for errors or unfamiliar services
-Be cautious of unsolicited calls, emails, and offers
-Report suspected fraud right away

If you suspect Medicare fraud, call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) or learn more about reporting fraud and abuse here: https://www.medicare.gov/basics/reporting-medicare-fraud-and-abuse

Together, we can help protect Medicare benefits and prevent scams in our communities.
