Some forms of self-care are loud. Others are ancient, quiet, and almost ceremonial.
In Ayurveda, cleansing practices are not just about hygiene. They are about clearing stagnation, sharpening the senses, and creating space for clarity to return to the body and mind.
One of my favorite rituals begins with gently washing the eyes using cool floral water. Rose, chrysanthemum, or other botanical infusions have long been used in traditional wellness practices to soothe overheated, tired eyes after exposure to stress, screens, environmental irritants, and mental fatigue. The feeling is subtle at first… then suddenly everything feels softer, calmer, brighter.
Followed by neti pot cleansing with warm salted water, a practice used for centuries in Ayurvedic self-care to support clearer breathing and help rinse away excess mucus, dust, pollen, and buildup from the nasal passages. There’s something deeply grounding about it. Like clearing static from the body’s internal radio.
These rituals invite slowness into a world that constantly rewards overstimulation.
Not everything has to be optimized.Some practices exist simply because they help us feel human again.
