I’ve been doing this a long time, and it still stops me in my tracks when I see something like Jason’s before and after picture. When we were talking about sharing it, he sent me his story so people could understand what really happened behind the photos. And honestly, it’s inspiring.
Jason grew up in a home where food was comfort and stability while his mom battled cancer. He became the “bottomless pit,” eating and never feeling full, carrying that pattern through rocky teenage years and into adulthood. After his mom passed away, food became a way to chase joy, but it always left him empty. Over time, the weight climbed to 407 pounds. Diabetes followed. Medications increased. Control slipped further away.
Then there was a moment that changed everything. Jason is a huge Disney fan, and when the new Guardians of the Galaxy coaster opened at Epcot, he had a preview opportunity, and he didn’t fit. That kind of moment hits deep. Surgery wasn’t an option and he was desperate to change his life. Then a doctor mentioned the FAST diet/Maintain for Life plan, and everything shifted.
When Jason first talked to me, he said he wanted to lose 10 pounds. I told him to dream bigger. We agreed on 225, his high school weight, and he went to work. I could hear it in his voice every time we would talk. He wasn’t dabbling, he was ready.
It didn't take long to realize, he was not going to have to starve on this plan or only eat salads. He learned to eat by the rules of the plan, which meant eating foods he normally ate, but getting control and creating consistency. It wasn't long before he was losing every week and winning the battle in his head.
Then the weight came off. The medications he was taking were dropped or lowered to minimal doses. Five months later, he went back to Disney and didn’t just ride the coaster, he conquered it.
Now he’s lost 182 pounds and on week 30 of maintenance. Losing weight is one thing. Learning how to maintain it is something entirely different. Week 30 means he didn’t just change his body, he changed his identity. Jason, I am so proud of you. You earned every bit of this.
