24 YEARS OF SHARP!

We’re proud to share that Community HealthCare System has once again earned OSHA’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) designation—marking our 24th consecutive year of recognition!

CHCS has earned SHARP recognition every year since 2002, reflecting our organization-wide commitment to keeping our employees safe.

This year’s on-site evaluation included our Westmoreland, Onaga and St. Marys clinics, Community HomeHealth, Redbud Plaza Assisted Living and St. Marys Manor. But this achievement belongs to all of CHCS—every location, every department and every employee who makes safety a priority every day.

SHARP is a significant achievement, and maintaining it for 24 consecutive years is something we’re incredibly proud of.

Preparing Rural Healthcare for the Future!

Community HealthCare System is excited to announce a $1.3 million FLARE award from the Patterson Family Foundation to support the development of a medical drone corridor between Centralia and Onaga.

FLARE—Flexible Logistics for Autonomous Rural Emergencies, in partnership with Kelly Hills Unmanned Systems—is a CHCS-led initiative exploring how unmanned aircraft can help strengthen rural healthcare delivery.

The project will test the use of drones to transport medical supplies, laboratory specimens, pharmaceuticals and, eventually, emergency medical resources—while collecting important data that could help expand this technology across rural Kansas and beyond.

At the recent Kelly Hills Field Day, CEO John Fitzthum shared why this work matters:

“This is a very forward-looking way to address some of the impediments we know rural healthcare is going to face in the future.”

With CHCS couriers traveling approximately 600 miles every day, innovative transportation solutions could improve efficiency, support our communities and help ensure critical medical resources can get where they are needed.

Fall is a great time for a health check!

Mark your calendar for the Community HealthCare System Fall Health Fair & Community Baby Shower on Saturday, October 3, from 7:30 am–10:30 am at Onaga Community Hospital!

For just $35, you can get a great set of health screenings, including:
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Chemistry Panel
Thyroid Screen
Cholesterol Panel
Hemoglobin A1c for diabetes screening

Want to add a little more?
Vitamin D – $20
PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) for men – $20

And there's plenty more happening that morning!

Class Times:
Tuesdays: 10:00–10:55 a.m.
Fridays: 2:00–2:55 p.m.

Open to adults 18+
Temperature-regulated pool
Great for all fitness levels

Classes are available to members of the Centralia, Frankfort, and Onaga Fitness Centers.
Not a member? No problem! Join a Fitness Center or purchase a punch card when you arrive.

Congratulations to Hannah Karn, our newest DAISY Award winner!

Exceptional nursing is about so much more than clinical care. It’s about taking the time to listen, offering reassurance when families need it most, and going the extra mile to make someone feel truly seen, heard, and cared for.

Hannah was nominated by the parent of two pediatric patients who shared the lasting impact her kindness, compassion, and attentiveness have had on their family. From patiently answering questions to taking the initiative to help resolve a stressful insurance situation before even returning the family’s call, Hannah demonstrated the kind of thoughtful care that makes all the difference.
