Let’s clear up some common misconceptions about my job as a clinical herbalist 🌿

1. I do not practice medicine! During the intake process, I explain this to people but some of y’all have given me the *wink wink* as if to say “sure Brittany, that’s what we want them to think!” 😂
Even if it were legal and I wanted to, herbal medicine does not translate to allopathic medicine. Herbal medicine has always been about a relationship with the earth, plants, and each other. One simply does not have an herb for a complex medical condition 🏥

2. I do not prescribe herbs or herbal formulas. It may sound silly but the truth is, people and herbs are nuanced. My clients and I discuss herbs that may help support them holistically based on their individual constitution. The client is in full control at all times and is always the person to make the final call on a formula or herbal preparation based on what THEY think they need most. I cannot stress enough how important this is! No one knows your body better than you!

3. While not common, it is my goal to work alongside your healthcare team. We do not toss them to the wayside once you cross the threshold. Herbal medicine can be complementary to allopathic care and the majority of my clients choose to keep their physicians informed about their choices. Some don’t, and that’s okay too! The important thing is that my clients are safe & informed.

I’m curious to know, did any of these surprise you?

✨ Working with plants means I get to meet some of the coolest people! A new friend reached out to share her lemon balm harvest - needless to say I was ecstatic and so grateful to get my hands on local, organically grown herbs to share with you all!

Here’s to many more years of hands in the dirt, tending to the plants, and connecting with others who love to do the same! 🌿

Why do I emphasize organic and wildcrafted herbs in my practice?

Great question, I’m so glad you asked! 😉

Herbs grown with care-properly harvested, stored, and sourced-often retain stronger aroma, richer color, and more vibrant medicinal qualities. Research also suggests organically grown herbs may contain higher levels of certain beneficial plant compounds.

But this isn’t about perfection or shaming anyone’s choice-because let’s face it, cost is a real factor here! Any connection to plants is meaningful and I want you to know that organic does not necessarily mean better or perfect.

I personally prioritize herbal sourcing because of my clients. Because YOU deserve the absolute best medicine available.

For me, sourcing is first and foremost a safety and stewardship issue. Poor growing practices, contamination, improper storage, and adulteration are some of the biggest concerns in Herbal Medicine today.

The plants we work with deserve respect.
And so do the people taking them.

🌿 Wildcrafted & Organic Herbs are one way I try to honor both plants & people 🌿
