What a night we had last week at the Oneonta Outlaws for Arc Otsego Night at the Ballgame!

Billy DJ'd as we welcomed in baseball fans, the Oneonta Middle School sang the National Anthem, Ryan through out the first pitch, and Alex announced the at-bats for the Outlaws first inning. Folks from our houses, day programs, and supported employment came out, along with employees and their families to take in a great night of baseball in Oneonta.

Ryan O' Connell is a writer, actor, director, and comedian who wrote a book in 2015 talking about his experience with Cerebral Palsy. Ryan says that it was easier for him to come out as gay than to tell people about his disability. He directed a TV show called "Special" in 2017.

A child should not lose learning time while their family gets bounced between federal agencies.

This week, the Department of Education said it plans to move key offices that help students with disabilities out of the Department of Education. That means families could face more confusion, more delays, and more barriers when students with disabilities need help at school.

Students with disabilities are public education students first. Their education, rights, and futures belong in the Department of Education.

Tell Congress to oppose moving these offices and the services they provide out of the Department of Education.

The Supreme Court has already decided that living in the community is a legal right.

More than 25 years ago, the Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision affirmed that people with disabilities have the right to live in their communities and not be forced into institutions.

That ruling changed millions of lives. But a right on paper only works when people can get the support they need. That’s what Medicaid home and community-based services (HCBS) make possible.

Congress made the biggest cuts to Medicaid in history last year. Now, many states are considering options that could reduce access to HCBS.

Help keep the promise of Olmstead alive. Tell Congress to protect Medicaid HCBS and the right of people with disabilities to live in their communities. https://bit.ly/4fAVl54

Today, we recognize Juneteenth, a day to celebrate Black History, culture, and achievement, as well as to reflect on the ongoing struggle for racial justice, equality, and equity. June 19th marks the day in 1865 when the last slaves were finally freed, more than 2 years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
