All of our support groups at Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living, are created with input that we receive from our clients. In these groups, clientele can learn coping mechanisms and strategies to get community support. We do all of this so that disabled and non-disabled community members have room for connection and communication. Learn more at www.EOCIL.org

As part of our efforts to engage community and work with youth in and around Eastern Oregon, we wanted to share this picture of Shauntay helping the youth identify what seeds are in our garden. Why is this important? Because it gives youth a safe place to learn and be themselves. If you wanna learn more, e-mail [email protected].

We believe that everyone deserves to clean, fresh and reset at EOCIL. We know that showers are part of harm reduction. At our Malheur and Wasco sites we have free showers; no ID required and no questions asked. If you have questions, you can e-mail [email protected] and use SHOWERS as the subject line!

Back in June Eastern Oregon Center for Independent Living had the absolute pleasure of hosting our first International guest; Disability Awareness Consultant Andrew Gurza flew in from Canada. They toured EOCIL's Ontario site in their power wheelchair to help us look at how to make the site more accessible for power chair users and speak at our pride event. It was such a pleasure having them. Find out more about their work at www.andrewgurza.com

We missed International Assistance Dog Week, which was August 2-8 2026, celebrating service dogs who provide a whole new level of independence and support. But at EOCIL we think these puppers should be recognized every day!

If you're in Eastern Oregon and you have a service dog, let us know. If you wanna find out more about IADW go to www.assistancedogsinternational.com

[id: a solid pink square with black text that reads Hey!Did you know? The beginning of August (Aug 2-8) was International Assistance Dog Week. IADW was created to celebrate and support all the hardworking, devoted service dogs helping disabled people receive accessibility and independence.

But at EOCIL we think those puppers deserve celebration every day.

If you’re in our service area at EOCIL and you have a service dog, let us know! Find out more at

We bee-lieve that it is important to try and leave the world a little bit better than it was before. As part of our efforts to promote food security and biodiversity, we have a honey bee conservatory at EOCIL. We strive for a community driven approach to pollinator conservation, and so we wanted to show our community the bees. If you want to find out more how you can support this work, reach out to [email protected]

At EOCIL we strive to leave the world a better place than when we found it.

At Eastern Oregon Center For Independent Living, we take the experiences of People Living with HIV in Eastern Oregon very seriously. You may know that we provide Ryan White Case Management services so that People Living with HIV can:

• Access and remain engaged in effective treatment
• Achieve and maintain an undetectable viral load
• Stay retained in long-term care and support services

Last week our Chief Executive Officer, Kirt Toombs, was at the 35th National Ryan White Conference on HIV Care & Treatment. He is committed to learning and growing our understanding of HIV so that the people that we serve locally have the best possible options!

While at the conference, Kirt also had the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Donald K. “Don” Steinberg and discuss global independent living and the importance of advancing the rights, inclusion, and independence of people with disabilities around the world. The conversation reflects EOCIL’s commitment to connecting the work we do in Eastern Oregon with the broader global movement for independent living and disability inclusion.
