George Lieux was changing a flat tire on the side of the road. While doing so, the tire slipped unexpectedly, and the vehicle struck his leg, causing a serious abrasion — a wound severe enough to remove two layers of skin.

Seeking relief, Lieux visited another medical facility, but despite treatment, his pain continued to worsen. It was his grandson — a medical student completing rounds at The Wound Treatment Center with Dr. Thibodeaux — who ultimately pointed him in the right direction.

“I came to The Wound Treatment Center, and they told me about this new process where they take belly fat and apply it to your wound. The outcome has been nothing short of remarkable and now I’m rocking and rolling,” said Lieux.

He became the first patient to receive APLICOR 3D treatment at the center, and within just a few weeks, his wound had fully healed.

The Wound Treatment Center hosted a press conference for APLICOR 3D by Tides Medical — an innovative advancement in wound care. Opelousas General Health System is proud to be the first-and-only facility in Louisiana offering this cutting-edge technology.

We heard inspiring stories from the first two patients, George Lieux and Kim Vidrine, who underwent the APLICOR 3D procedure. They shared their experiences and remarked on the care they received.

OGHS President and CEO, Lance Armentor, MHA, spoke about how this breakthrough represents the next big step in wound treatment. We were also honored to hear from Doug Payne, COO, Tides Medical, who presented Opelousas General and The Wound Treatment Center with the Health Care Innovator Award.

A very special thanks to News15, KATC-TV 3: Acadiana's Newschannel , KLFY News 10 , and St. Landry Now , who came out to cover what's next for Opelousas General!

Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are open sores or wounds that occur in people with diabetes, most commonly on the bottom of the foot. Poor circulation and nerve damage (neuropathy) mean many patients don't feel pain, allowing wounds to go unnoticed and worsen over time. Early recognition and proper wound care are critical — untreated DFUs are a leading cause of non-traumatic lower limb amputations.

Know the signs. Catch it early by calling The Wound Treatment Center at (337) 948-5100 to schedule an appointment.
