MaxLove Project We improve the quality of life of families facing childhood cancers & pediatric rare diseases. Learn more at maxloveproject.org.

MaxLove Project is a 10+ year-old 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Orange, California that serves families facing pediatric cancer and rare diseases nationally. It's our mission to increase the quality of life and reduce health risks for all children surviving cancer, in treatment and beyond. We empower families fighting childhood cancers and related life-threatening conditions with evidence-

based quality-of-life care, culinary medicine, mental wellness, integrative health resources, education, and research. We believe that true health starts when families are empowered to be active partners in their child’s healing. Our primary service outside of live events in Southern California is our private online platform, MaxLove Connect. MaxLove Connect is an expert-facilitated social support network just for pediatric cancer and rare disease families that includes evidence-based workshops and articles focused on lifestyle medicine and integrative health, as well as live events such as emotional processing sessions, cooking classes, our Living Room caregiver connection sessions and family coaching. The platform is completely free for families to use and is supported by a team of amazing, fully credentialed and licensed specialists. Families can sign up for support at www.maxloveconnect.org. In Orange County, CA we offer community acupuncture and wellness sessions and bereavement groups from our office clinic in Orange as well as our Fierce Foods Academy monthly culinary medicine classes in Irvine. Families can find our schedule of events within the MaxLove Connect platform.

Amazing news about our next chapter! MaxLove Project is transforming into something new — our great work will continue with three incredible organizational partners, and San Day Foundation is one of them. ➡️

🔄 has been a resource and an influence for our wellness program here at SDF from the start. The organization helped Sam maintain a good quality of life while he endured one toxic drug after another. A healthy diet had obvious effects on his body, and allowed him to feel good and avoid additional illness during his last few years of life.

When Audra DiPadova approached us about taking on their assets as they begin to sunset the organization, we felt it was a natural fit for SDF. In this next chapter, SDF will begin rebranding their incredible Fierce Foods cookbook for cancer kids, and make it available for families dealing with childhood cancer. The book was developed with evidence based nutrition guidelines, culinary chef and registered dietician expertise, is kid friendly, culture conscious, and with affordable ingredients in mind. Best of all, executive director Audra will be working closely with SDF to help make the transition smooth.

Max remains an inspiration, and SDF is about to become even more impactful.

Happy happy 19th birthday SUPERMAX!!! 💛💛💛💛💛

♻️ Happy 19th birthday Max!! 🎂🎈🎊 I can’t even begin to express how proud I am of you. You’ve grown to be such an independent and disciplined person with rock solid morals and the most deep and true kindness. You’re such a wonderful person!! I’m so excited and deeply grateful to be able to witness your life unfold. None of these days were guaranteed to us. There was a time when we couldn’t even envision the possibility of you going to college, and here we are! We don’t take a moment for granted. I think it’s hard for people to appreciate the weight you carry, always wondering if the brainstem tumors will grow, but somehow you don’t let it get you down or consume you. You focus on your growth, thriving, school, fun and friends. I think you’re going to have a lot of wisdom to share with others on your journey through life. I love you so much and feel lucky to be a part of your precious life 🙏🫶✨😍🥹

"MaxLove was our light during our darkest moments."

These words from our families remind us why this work matters.
For Daniel, an Ewing sarcoma survivor, Fierce Foods Academy became more than cooking classes—it became a place where he met other teens who understood his journey. A place where he didn't feel alone.

For Joanna, whose beautiful daughter Sarah was diagnosed with DIPG, MaxLove became a constant support system through the unimaginable. A family when she needed one most.

This is what 14 years of MaxLove Project has built: A community where families facing childhood cancer find hope, connection, and each other.

From cooking classes to walking the farm, from hospital rooms to healing—we've been honored to walk alongside thousands of families in the past fourteen years.

To Daniel, Joanna, and every family who has trusted us with your journey: Thank you. You are our why.

Those of you who've been with us from the beginning may remember our origin story. It started with a little boy, a dark room, and a stuffed turtle nightlight.

In August 2011, Max came home from almost four weeks in the hospital after brain surgery. He was 4½, couldn't walk, and was terrified of the dark. Four nightlights weren't enough.

I ran out and bought a Cloud b Twilight Turtle, hoping the projected stars might help. When Max saw those green stars on his ceiling, something magical happened. He held that turtle up to the back of his head and said, "Look mommy! I'm healing!"

Green was already his "superpower color"—and those green stars became his healing stars.

That moment of empowerment—a scared little boy finding support for his courage—is why MaxLove Project exists. We reached out to Cloud b, and they didn't just give us a discount. They donated. Then in 2015, they created SuperMax the Turtle, with a smile modeled after Max's own.
Since then, we've sent thousands of these therapeutic nightlights to children's hospitals across the country.

Now, as we prepare to transition MaxLove Project's work to our partner organizations in 2026, we have one final mission: getting our remaining SuperMax the Turtles into the hands of kids who need them most.

Will you help us bring healing stars to more SuperKids? 💛✨

Our Fierce Foods Academy brings the joy of baking right to the bedside. There's something truly special about watching SuperKids and their families roll out dough, cut festive shapes, and fill hospital hallways with the warm, spicy-sweet aroma of gingerbread.

Culinary medicine isn't just about nutrition—it's about connection, creativity, and reclaiming moments of joy during treatment. When kids get their hands in the dough, they're not just making cookies. They're building confidence, trying new flavors, and creating memories with their families.

A huge thank you to our amazing Chef Cathy McKnight for this delicious recipe from our Fierce Foods Kitchen cookbook!

Want to make these at home? Here's Chef Cathy's Grain-Free Gingerbread Cookies:

Ingredients:
1½ cup almond flour
¼ cup arrowroot
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
½ tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp cloves
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
¼ cup coconut oil, melted and cooled
¼ cup dark molasses
⅓ cup coconut sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
¼ cup minced crystallized ginger

Method:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Whisk dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, combine coconut oil, molasses, coconut sugar, and vanilla until sugar dissolves. Slowly mix in dry ingredients, then fold in crystallized ginger. Roll tablespoon-sized balls, flatten on parchment-lined sheets, and bake 12–14 minutes until edges crisp. Let cool completely before removing!
Pro tip: These freeze beautifully—make extra!
