Packing up the sleeping bags, the sunscreen, and... a mandatory lice clearance form? šŸŒ²šŸŽ’

A lot of summer camps require a professional lice check before kids can even unpack their bags. And if they don't? Well, weeks of close contact in cabins and campfires means head-to-head contact goes way up.

Whether you need a quick, official pre-camp clearance check to get them out the door, or a thorough post-camp inspection to make sure they didn’t bring home any unwanted "souvenirs," The Lice House has you covered.

Our shop is clean, cozy, and completely judgment-free. Skip the drugstore panic and let the pros handle it!

One of the hardest parts about lice isn’t actually the lice.

It’s the panic. The overwhelm. The endless Googling at midnight. The guilt parents sometimes feel, even though lice has nothing to do with cleanliness.

If your family is dealing with lice right now, take a breath šŸ’›

It’s common. It’s manageable. And you do not have to figure it all out alone.

Whether you need professional treatment, a head check, home care guidance, or just someone to answer questions, we’re always happy to help.

Can’t afford professional lice treatment right now? We understand. šŸ’›

If professional treatment isn’t in the budget at the moment, there are practical steps you can take at home to work through lice successfully.

Here’s a simple plan:

āœ”ļø Check carefully
Use bright lighting and inspect behind the ears and at the nape of the neck.

āœ”ļø Comb daily
Use a fine-tooth nit comb on wet hair, section by section, from scalp to ends.

āœ”ļø If using an OTC treatment
Choose one that contains dimethicone and follow directions carefully.

āœ”ļø Wash & dry hot
Wash recently used bedding, hats, towels, clothing, and hair accessories.
If you can’t wash it, place it in the dryer on high heat for one hour.
If you can’t do that either, set it aside for 2 days.

āœ”ļø Vacuum common areas
Furniture, car seats, and places heads have rested.

āœ”ļø Recheck daily for 10–14 days
Consistency matters.

āœ”ļø Check close family members
Treat if needed.

āœ”ļø Focus on the head first
The most important part of treatment is thorough combing and removing lice and nits from the hair.
Home treatment takes patience and persistence, but it can be done. If it feels overwhelming or keeps coming back, we’re here to help in a calm, private, judgment-free space.

How do lice reproduce so quickly? šŸ‘€

Understanding the lice life cycle can help explain why infestations seem to grow fast if they aren’t fully treated.

A fertilized female louse can lay eggs (nits) daily, attaching them close to the scalp where they stay warm until hatching. Those eggs hatch into baby lice, mature, and the cycle continues.

The good news?

Lice can be successfully treated when the full cycle is addressed, not just the bugs you can see.
That’s why thorough combing, proper treatment, and follow-up matter so much.

If your family is dealing with lice or you just want peace of mind, we’re here to help in a calm, private, judgment-free space šŸ’›

🚨 If your child was exposed to lice… read this before you panic-clean your house.

Most parents hear ā€œlice exposureā€ and immediately think: laundry marathon, disinfect everything, cancel life. But here’s what actually matters:

āŒ You do NOT need to deep clean your entire home

āŒ You do NOT need to panic or treat everyone immediately

āœ”ļø You DO need simple, timely head checks.
Head lice spread through direct head-to-head contact, not couches, carpets, or shared spaces.

What to do instead: 🧠 Check your child’s scalp every few days for 10–14 days

šŸ” Focus behind the ears and at the nape of the neck

šŸ’¬ Stay in communication with your child’s school or group activity

The earlier lice is found, the easier it is to handle and the less disruption for your family.

Calm, simple steps always beat panic-driven cleaning.

We’re so grateful for the families who trust us šŸ’›

"Amazing! Jamie saved us from a week of a stressful lice situation.

Dealing with lice is never a fun experience, but Jamie made us feel so welcome and eased our stress. She was able to get us in right away after lice continued circulating at school. She checked our whole family and made sure those bugs weren’t coming back. She is experienced, knowledgeable, and provides good education for how to be proactive with home cleaning. She was wonderful with our kids and gentle with sensory sensitivities, we highly recommend her."

What actually kills lice… and what doesn’t?

There’s a lot of advice out there, and not all of it works.

Here’s a simple breakdown:

āœ… What actually works:

• Manual removal (combing)
This is the most important step. Removing lice and nits thoroughly is key.

• Dimethicone-based treatments
Works by coating and suffocating lice. Non-toxic and very effective when used properly.

• Professional treatment + combing
Thorough and consistent removal makes the biggest difference.

āš ļø What doesn’t work well on its own:

• Regular shampoo
Does not kill lice

• Essential oils alone
May help repel, but usually won’t eliminate an active infestation

• Sprays for furniture and the home
Lice don’t live long off the scalp, so these are often unnecessary

• Just washing everything repeatedly
Helpful for peace of mind, but not the main solution

The biggest key? Consistency and thorough removal.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure what to do, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
