Those “bees” bothering you while you eat outside are usually YELLOW JACKETS — not honeybees. 🐝

Yellow jackets become a huge nuisance later in the summer, but right now is the perfect time to put out traps. Early-season traps can catch queens before they establish nests, potentially preventing thousands of yellow jackets later this summer.

Our very first Sip & Roll Candle Night at Buffalo Rock Brewing Company - Bayside was SOLD OUT last night — and what a fun evening it was. 🐝🕯️🍺
Everyone had such a great time drinking beer, rolling beeswax candles, laughing, and getting creative together. We even had some beautiful last-minute live music from Tim Oehlers that made the night feel even more special.
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this new idea of ours. 💛

Look close…

On the left: bees coming home with full pollen baskets (those little colorful pant legs 🥹)
On the right: pollen packed into the comb, stored like tiny little pantries

This isn’t honey… this is protein.

It’s what feeds the babies and keeps the whole hive going. No pollen = no new bees.

And those colors?!
Every shade means they’ve been visiting something different. It’s like a little map of what’s blooming around you right now. 🌲 🌳 🌼

When you see this much pollen coming in, it’s a good day in the bee yard:
✔️ Queen is laying
✔️ Babies are being fed
✔️ Colony is building up

Basically… the bees are busy and thriving 💛

Early April and making splits!

These hives are so strong already that it was time to divide them. A “split” is just taking one thriving colony and turning it into two… kind of like hitting reset on growth and preventing them from swarming off.

It’s definitely early for this, but when the bees tell you they’re ready—you listen.

Strong hives this early has me feeling really optimistic for the season ahead 💛🍯🐝

From syrup to honey! Funny how nature works.

Just as maple syrup season ends with the budding of trees, the bees begin their spring work. This happens almost instantaneously.

Those same maple trees that gave us sap are now providing pollen and nectar for the bees, followed by willows and other early blooms.

First the trees give us maple syrup…
then they feed the bees that make honey. 🍁🐝🍯
