I hope that as adults, we appreciate how healing children are.
Last week I was out for a morning walk. As I neared a group of children who had set up an early morning lemonade stand, the garbage truck was making its rounds.
A young girl grabbed a glass of their liquid gold and hurried to stand by the curb just ahead of the nearest garbage can.
As the truck came to a stop, she waved vigorously and held the glass out to the truck driver. At first I thought she was going to try and sell it to him but no, she surprised me.
The garbage truck driver, who is probably used to being overlooked, rolled down his window and the girl stretched as tall as she could and said, "Here, this is for you so you don't get thirsty."
Oh my heart---
The man extended his arm low and took the cup with a smile.
What a lovely thing to witness.
It reminds me of when my grandkids lived in Iowa where Garbage men still ride on the trucks, like in the old movies.
My grandkids loved those garbage men and would give them treats at the holidays and chase the trucks from the sidewalk.
Another kid healing moment: I have the cutest neighbor kids. Two of whom, I have known for many years.
The other day, their mom -A- walked over to me while I was watering my plants. She said that -L- who is three, and the most adorable little dude, ever, was counting on his fingers. She couldn't hear what he was saying so she asked what he was doing.
He said that he was counting his family. One finger was for -E-, his older sister, one for mom, one for dad, one for himself and one for his friend.
-A- asked who the friend was and he lit up saying, Donna. She said she just had to tell me.
Oh-My-Heck--- I made the top 5!!!!
When she told me that I even teared up.
Tender moments like these are what fuel goodness in all ages. If those blessed to bear witness to these small but might acts can perpetuate them; pay them forward without expectation of any reward... wow-- What a world!!
