Polycystic O***y Syndrome is getting a rebrand — because, shockingly, it turns out this condition is about a LOT more than just ovaries and a couple “cysts.” 😅
The new proposed name is Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome, which honestly sounds intimidating… but actually makes way more sense.
PMOS affects over 170 million women worldwide and involves way more than reproductive health. We’re talking hormones doing acrobatics, metabolism issues, weight struggles, skin problems, mental health impacts, and all the fun little surprises nobody warned us about.
For years, the old name made it sound like the condition was simply “ovarian cysts” — which led to so many women being dismissed, misdiagnosed, or handed a “just lose weight” speech and sent on their way. 🙃
This name change is basically the medical community finally admitting:
“Hey… maybe this is a full-body hormonal disorder and not just an o***y issue after all.”
