Winter Park neighbors: Medicare Annual Enrollment begins today, October 15.

The October 15–December 7 enrollment period is a chance to review Medicare health and drug coverage for the coming year. Changes made during this period generally take effect January 1. Start with your current plan notices, doctor list and prescriptions. Switching is a decision to review carefully, not a requirement.

The Annual Notice of Change explains upcoming changes in your plan’s coverage and costs. Compare it with the services and prescriptions you actually use. Highlight unfamiliar terms and keep the notice with your review checklist. A change that matters to a neighbor may affect you differently.

Helping your parents with Medicare in Kissimmee? Start by listening.

Ask what they like about their current coverage and what has been difficult. Make a private checklist of doctors, prescriptions and notices they want explained. Let your parent set the priorities and participate in decisions. When speaking with a plan, ask what authorization is needed for you to help.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, DOH-Orange’s mammolink bus will visit the Mexican Consulate. Eligible women can ask about free or low-cost mammograms.

Clermont neighbors: before changing Medicare plans, check the doctors you want to keep.

Write down each provider’s full name and office location. For Medicare Advantage, verify participation with the exact plan and confirm with the provider’s office. A familiar insurance company name does not confirm every plan’s network. Include specialists and facilities you use, and ask about referrals where applicable.

When comparing coverage, look at what you may pay for doctor visits, prescriptions and other services. Check deductibles and coinsurance, too. Ask which expenses count toward any applicable out-of-pocket limit and which do not. The right comparison uses your likely care needs, not just the first number on a brochure.
