It was an honor to speak at Dr. Saigalโs Pearls, Prosecco & Purpose event supporting the American Cancer Society with my girls , , and of course the amazing Dr. Anu Saigal. ๐
We talked about wellness, nutrition, prevention, and ways lifestyle can help support overall health, while raising awareness and funds that fuel research, patient support programs, and the mission to end breast cancer.
Some important reminders:
๐ About 1 in 8 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. The good news is breast cancer death rates have declined over time thanks to earlier detection, screening, and advances in treatment.
๐ Mammograms matter. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends breast cancer screening with mammography starting at age 40 for average-risk women. But screening is not one-size-fits-all. Talk with your doctor, because some women may benefit from earlier screening depending on personal risk factors, family history, or genetic predisposition.
๐ Dense breast tissue matters too. Dense breasts can make cancers harder to detect on mammograms and may also increase breast cancer risk. Depending on your situation, talk with your healthcare team about whether additional imaging, such as ultrasound, may be appropriate.
๐ Know your family history. If breast cancer runs in your family, discuss whether genetic counseling or genetic testing may be appropriate to better understand inherited cancer risk.
Please consider supporting the American Cancer Society. Research, screening, early detection, and patient support save lives.
Together we can move closer to a future with fewer cancer diagnoses, earlier detection, and more survivors. ๐
