A Note from Our Executive Director
Yesterday marked 20 years since Libby Maynard left this earth and joined her Heavenly Father.
For many, Libby is simply the namesake of Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation.
For some, she was a second mother — a shoulder to lean on.
For others, she is the reason this organization exists and is credited with saving their lives.
For me… she was a colleague, a woman of deep faith, a bright spirit — and the person who introduced me to her daughter, Robin.
Many years ago, Libby and I worked together at another nonprofit. From the moment we met, she carried herself with warmth, conviction, and a steady joy that drew people in. She believed in people. She believed in service. And she believed in doing the work that mattered.
What none of us could have known then was how profoundly her life — and later her loss — would shape and change the lives of so many others.
After Libby’s passing in 2006, Robin channeled her grief into purpose and founded Libby’s Legacy. What began as a daughter honoring her mother has grown into a mission that has provided more than 25,000 breast health services and helped diagnose and navigate more than 350 women and men through their breast cancer journeys over the past 19 years.
Libby’s love multiplied.
And it continues to multiply.
Robin honors her mom not only through the services we provide, the survivorship programs we build, and the families we serve, but also through her deep involvement in Groveland — the hometown Libby cherished.
Marty, Robin’s sister, honors her in a different yet equally beautiful way — through her children and grandchildren, passing down the same love, laughter, and faith that defined their mom, as well as through her service to the homeless community.
And for me, Libby’s legacy is deeply personal in so many ways. There is not a day that goes by that I don’t recognize the quiet hand of grace in that connection.
Twenty years later, Libby’s story is still unfolding.
In every screening.
In every survivor we celebrate.
In every family who feels less alone.
Legacy is not what we leave behind.
It’s what continues because we were here.
And Libby Maynard was here.
We remember her with gratitude.
We carry her forward with purpose. 💗
