A message I received from TIZO regarding their sunscreen safety:
We have received questions from both consumers and professional accounts about whether TIZO "contains benzene." To eliminate any uncertainty, Fallene recently had all of our TIZO sunscreen products tested by an independent lab. Those test results are now available and we are pleased to report that NO benzene was detected. Your clients and patients can continue to use TIZO with confidence.
As I’m sure you’re aware, a report was issued in late May from a laboratory (Valisure) that tested a number of batches of different sunscreens and after-sun products and found detectable levels of benzene, which is a known carcinogen, in about a quarter of them. Valisure sent its results to FDA, requested a recall of the batches it found that were contaminated, and requested FDA better define limits for benzene contamination in drug and cosmetic products. More recently, a major consumer brand recalled a number of sunscreen formulas because of this issue.
TIZO was not included in the Valisure study and was not part of any recall or request for recall. That study analyzed 294 batches from 69 different companies. This is a small subset of the 11,000+ sunscreen products estimated to be on the market. The lab released a list of the batches (78) that contained benzene as well as a list of the batches (217) they tested where they did not find benzene. Since TIZO was not included in that test, we were not on either list.
We had all of our sunscreen products tested to eliminate any uncertainty for our customers and their clients. Again, we are pleased to report that the results are available, and NO benzene was detected.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your TIZO representative if you have any questions.
