So, we did a thing. ❤️
I discovered this guy at the humane society after he was confiscated from what appears to have been a neglect/hoarding situation. He was emaciated and weighed only 24 pounds—tiny for a roughly two-year-old chocolate Lab mix.
But he’s home with us now, as of yesterday, and this little guy doesn’t know it yet, but he has absolutely hit the jackpot. He’s going to have a wonderful life with us, if we have anything to say about it.
He is so sweet. Affectionate, playful, eager to please, and already attached to us. Given free rein, he simply wants to be by our side—leaning against us or resting a paw on one of our feet. He’s shown absolutely zero signs of aggression. We haven’t even heard him bark. He’s just so, so sweet, and we already love him.
He was just neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated, so he’ll be wearing a cone for a couple of weeks. And, unfortunately, the poor guy has a pretty severe upper respiratory infection. Because it’s highly contagious to other dogs, he and Baloo haven’t met yet. We’re keeping them separated until he’s completely healthy.
He’s been introduced to the cats and chickens, though, and so far he seems completely disinterested in them—which is exactly what we were hoping for.
We’ve had lots of dogs here over the years, and Baloo gets along with everyone, so I’m really hoping these two bond. Perhaps Baloo’s big, gentle teddy-bear energy will help this little guy feel safe and confident once he’s had some time to acclimate.
Now we just have to settle on a name. Please help!
So far, we’re mulling over:
Guinness
Java
Honor
Levi
Loyal
Dude
Noble
Reign
Bodhi
Any other ideas?
It has to fit a gangly, sweet-natured, earnest little guy. ❤️
